I've been participating in the /r/ayearofwarandpeace challenge this year which was conceived a couple of years back as a New Years Resolution challenge based on that fact that a lot of people want to read War and Peace but it is incredibly daunting AND has a perfect 365 chapters in the right translation. Now, the year is winding down so those of us participating in the challenge are getting near the end of it. As a result, I've been thinking of other epic tomes I've wanted to take on, but have been intimidated by their size and I thought Infinite Jest would be the perfect candidate.

If an "A Year of IJ" subreddit was started for the 2020 year, would anyone be interested in participating?

You know how the sub r/ayearofwarandpeace reads the book over the course of year and everyone contributes to book discussions on the assigned chapters each week? I feel like it would be so cool to that for Infinite Jest. but how hard would it be to get something like this off the ground? and would there be enough interest?

Edit: I didn't know that the subreddit r/infinitesummer does this every year apparently! Maybe we can make some cross posts in this sub to try to generate more interest in the next few months and prepare before it starts. It seems like the /r/infinitesummer sub hasn't actually updated for 2020 so I'm not 100% sure if they're planning on doing it again this year already, but I could contact the mods and try to make sure it happens! And maybe help with the planning.

Edit 2: I also wonder what people would think about stretching out the reading time a little more than just over the summer. 75 pages a week feels like it might be rushing it a bit.

This is gonna seem dumb and I apologize in advance.

I've been living on my own for about...oh, 8 years. During this time, I really drifted apart from my family. My dad was super emotionally abusive and my mom slid it under the rug to appear that we were a happy family.

About 2 weeks ago, I posted a meme about how my parent's Christian lifestyle didn't stick with me. It was captioned by the words "sorry ma". I didn't tag her in it, just thought it was something I could resonate with. For the record, I hold no ill will towards my mother. She saw it and basically put me on blast in a message, saying how cold and unkind I was and how she wouldn't say Merry Christmas because she didn't want to offend me. She then blocked me last night at 3 am.

Am I the asshole for posting that meme? I often post things that I find amusing or relates to my life. A lot of my postings are definitely more left of the playing field though, if you catch my drift, and my parents are dead set conservatives, so maybe this was the straw that broke camel's back.

At this point, I'd just like to know if I'm the asshole and if I should go apologize.

Update My mom and I spoke and we both apologized for being assholes. We now both have clean slates and we're moving on with our lives. We still love and cherish each other, but we decided that we're too different to have each other on Facebook. So, ETA?

If you play polymorphist's jest while a God is a creature, does the good also become a frog or would it check for devotion first and revert to a non creature? Also when those frogs would die that turn, would athreos still be able to return the original card back to your hand? Thanks!

I finished Infinite Jest in August (took about 3 months) and I'm very curious to return to the math and science in it. I'm an English major so my understanding of most of it wasn't very good.

Basically, I'd like to broaden my horizons a little and was wondering if there are any resources or websites that have explained the mathematical and scientific concepts in the book.

The prestige bonus for coming in 1st as compared to 9th is, like, maybe 10 prestige, A.K.A, not that much. For the love of Indra, if you have to choose to either keep the massive amount of buffs we just planned out for you with our perfect, 5-color unison, or to waste 30 seconds on your Flames Of Amnesia just to give your BP a little boost, please choose the former. I don't care if I'm in first or last place, but I do care if I just wasted 50-some-odd stamina because you couldn't bear being 6th overall.
