A list of puns related to "51st International Film Festival Rotterdam"
Hi Guys,
I don't know if someone managed to buy a ticket days ago as well, until they updated the site and now, even connecting via VPN, it validates that they can only be accessed in the Netherlands. Anyone having the same problem? Do you know what VPN or tunneling works for the http://iffr.com/ site?
After a few years of thinking about going to the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) I finally did go. This 2014 edition was my first and if it's up to me it won't be my last. I enjoyed the movies I've seen, and I think the festival had many more great movies to offer, but I only have so little money, and so little time. No Unlimited Pass for me, but I don't think I would want to see so many movies in 12 days either.
Anyway, in short, the four movies I've seen:
A Touch of Sin/Tian zhu ding
I saw this one in many (American) best of 2013 lists, so I figured it would be good. It was! Interesting, critical movie with some gripping violence. I was with a friend and he liked it as well, I'm saying this because Her proved to be a more polarizing movie, but, that was also with different friends. 8/10 for me though!
Hard to Be a God/Trudno byt' bogom
A Russian film that is based on a book by the writers of the famous movie Stalker by Andrei Tarkovsky. I watched Stalker a few years ago and I had a hard time understanding it, it's a movie to watch again someday, to really see if I can make sense of it, and to really see if I like it or not. I didn't expect Hard to Be a God to be easy either, but I think I wanted to challenge myself, which would be one of the reasons why I chose this film. Also, the description of this movie is pretty neat. It turned out to be a movie worth watching, if you can appreciate these kind of things. It looked great, but didn't have a lot of things happening, I do think I understood some of the things the movie was saying (like, maybe 30% of it), and how I interpret the movie, it has some interesting points. The director, Aleksei German, who died last year, has surely left us with something special. 7/10
The Hope Factory/Kombinat Nadezhda
Another Russian film, it's not that I'm a fan of Russian cinema or something, I guess this would only be the third movie I see that comes out of Russia, but it's the description of the movie that spoke to me. What would it be like to live in this cold, industrial city in Siberia, surrounded by nothingness? Norilsk is an awful place to live, and it's where the young people in the movie have grown up. I thought the movie would be more about the city itself, but it's centered around these boys and girls who either decide to stay there, or try to find a way out. The city definitely plays a large part in The Hope Factory, it's just that you don't see very much of it, al
This film also received many nominations.
An off duty police officer begins to suspect a local man for having had an affair with his recently dead wife. Gradually his obsession for finding out the truth accumulates and inevitably begins to endanger himself and his loved ones. This is a drama/thriller.
The scenery is beautiful.

I've tried a few different VPNs but when i try to purchase a ticket to a virtual screening it says "only available in NL"
I've never had problems using VPNs at other film festitals.
Am i doing something wrong?
