Hello Everyone! I'm back! I took the weekend to myself this week and went to a local cafe to watch a friend of mine perform some songs in front of a crowd - she was incredible! A big extra step notably for me however was that I felt pretty much no urge to drink despite people drinking around me. This is, of course, pretty unprecedented in my life so I'm honestly kind of impressed with myself. My urges are dying down, I think! And shoot, it only took 3 extremely difficult weeks. Who would've thunk huh?
Anywho, onto the discussion!
Another thing I did this weekend was watch all of the Harry Potter main canon films. I haven't ever seen them before, as I don't support JK Rowling and intend to give her no revenue of my own out of principle. However, a friend of mine had the entire collection, so I loaned it off of them over the weekend and decided to give them a shot, I've heard good things and honestly they always seemed like they'd be up my alley.
I won't go into each individual film here, as that would take far too long, but for reference going forward, heres my overall ranking.
1 - Harry Potter and the Prizoner Of Azkaban
2 - Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone
3 - Harry Potter and the Goblet Of Fire
4 - Harry Potter and the Chamber Of Secrets
5 - Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
6 - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2
7 - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1
8 - Harry Potter and the One Where Dolores Umbridge takes a main role
Overall, I liked the entire series, I think it suffers more from the source material side of things than it does anything directorial wise. However, film wise I'll speak on a few gripes I have before I get to what I like about these movies.

Summary:
After having narrowly escaped the Death Eaters the trio places their usual protection charms and retreat to the familiar tent. Hermione explains she wanted to make sure the Death Eaters saw Harry so they don’t kill Lovegood but made sure to hide Ron since he is supposed to be ill in bed. They wonder what’s happened with Luna hoping she is still alive. Hermione believes Xenophilius invented everything about the Deathly Hallows, but Ron brings up how difficult is to invent something when under pressure. Lovegood kept talking since he was trying to keep them there for the Death Eaters. Hermione believes the Death Hallows can’t exist, but Ron brings up Harry’s Invisibility Cloak. For Hermione they are only a story about how humas are frightened of death. Harry brings up how they could do with an unbeatable wand, and how there have been wands such as the Deathstick in wizard history. Still Hermione thinks something like the Resurrection Stone can’t exist, people can’t come back from the dead. Harry mentions the impressions of his parents coming back and how the second brother got to see and talk to the girl in the tale, scaring Hermione. Trying to change the subject Harry asks about the Peverell grave they saw at Godric’s Hollow, the only think Hermione could find was they were a pure-blood family now extinct in the male line. Harry remembers Marvolo Gaunt was a descendant of the Peverells, and how the ring had the Peverell coat of arms according to Gaunt. It dawns on them that it might have been the Deathly Hollows sign instead, and Harry wants to think it could’ve been the Resurrection Stone.
Harry’s imagination starts racing seeing himself as possessor of the Hallows using them against Voldemort’s Horcruxes. Suddenly he finds himself examining the Cloak and concludes he is a descendant from the third brother. He reminds the others about Dumbledore borrowing the Invisibility Cloak from his father, at Hermione’s disbelief, he brings out his mother letter and the snitch in his pouch falls to the floor. Harry excitedly announces the ring is inside the Snitch and to him everything fits. He had the third Hallow with him, the second one in the Snitch and he only needed to find the Elder Wand and reality struck him Voldemort is after the Elder Wand. Harry’s mind racing he figures out Voldemort doesn’t know about the Hallows and is not aware of the full power of the Elder Wand. Harry still has not figured out how to get the memory from Slughorn or what Malfoy is up to. Ron and Hermione are preparing to take their Apparition test when Harry gets a note from Hagrid that Aragog has passed away and would like the trio to be present at the funeral for support. Hermione thinks is not worth risking detention and moves on to Harry getting the memory from Slughorn. She suggests Harry use Felix Felicis though Harry was saving it for something different.
Hermione and Ron go to take their test and Potions is quite empty except for Harry Ernie and Draco, all of whom are not of age so won’t be taking the test. Slughorn suggest doing something fun and wants to be surprised. Malfoy is looking thinner, so Harry concludes the mission is not going well, with this in mind he goes on to find a modified version of Euphoria in his book. This could put Slughorn in a good enough mood to handover the memory. Slughorn praises Harry’s potion and notes how adding peppermint although unorthodox is a stroke of brilliance. Ernie and Malfoy leave without any praise, Harry goes on to try and have Slughorn taste his potion, but he has left hurriedly. Hermione and Ron are back, she has passed the exam, but Ron left half an eyebrow and failed the test.
Harry has decided to use the lucky potion, not all of it just a mouthful. He goes on to take a drink of the potion and with the potion taking effect decides to go to Hagrid’s. Hermione and Ron are confused and try to remind him he should go to Slughorn, but he decided that’s the place to be. A Harry leaves with the Invisibility Cloak on, Lavender sees Ron and Hermione come down together. At the same time, Harry slips between Ginny and Dean causing Ginny to get mad at Dean for pushing her.
The front door was left open by Filch, Harry goes outside and decides to walk pass the vegetable patch, were he finds Professor Slughorn. They have a quick exchange and Harry mentions going to the Acromantula’s funeral. Slughorn is interested in the venom as its very valuable and Harry invites him to come with him. Slughorn goes back into the castle promising to catchup with a couple of bottles. Harry is delighted Harry came. Aragog is getting buried in the patch outside of Hagrid’s house as he cannot go back to the forest were the rest of the Acromantulas live. They go out into the garden where Aragog body lies. Slughorn retrieves some of the venom while admiring the creature. Hagrid has a difficult time with buri

As my title suggests, my mom is a huge Harry Potter nut. She and my dad actually met in a harry potter “IRC” (like Disord but for old people) in the early 00s got married had kids and from day one decided to embarrass us for life by naming us after some Harry Potter and Star Wars characters.
It’s honestly been hell. I have a stupid name and since we were little my parents have forced stuff like Harry Potter, Star Wars, marvel movies, etc etc down our throats. Everything is about dragons and magic and blah blah blah. I’m so sick of it. Every birthday every holiday everything is just organized around “fandom.”
So just like every Christmas the days leading up to Christmas we have to sit down every night and watch Harry Potter movies. It’s. So. Fucking. BORING!!!! I can usually get away with knitting or drawing on my Ipad during this but this year my mom was like “let’s just have a technology and distraction free night every night”
I arranged to go over to my friend Missy’s house instead for like two nights. Missy’s family is NORMAL and likes things a NORMAL amount. My mom got really mad and started talking about how it’s a family tradition and how I’m basically rejecting her and went on her whole thing about how “you wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for harry potter.”
I finally had it and just yelled “NOBODY CARES THAT YOU WERE A BIG NAME IN THE HARRY POTTER FAN CLUB!!! I don’t like Harry Potter! I don’t like Star Wars! I HATE MARVEL MOVIES THEY’RE ALL SO BORING PLEASE JUST LET ME HAVE MY OWN INTERESTS!”
I couldn’t help it I started crying because I was just so frustrated because everything always has to be about harry potter this star wars that and now that we’re all older they started doing game of thrones. EVERYTHING is centered around some kind of movie or tv show or book series.
Just onces I want my family to band around something that DOESN’T have to do with media or these nerdy things. We live in Utah where we have like 5 National Parks and even though I ask every year for my birthday I’VE NEVER EVEN BEEN TO ARCHES!!!!
Well my sister called me saying that mom was angry and to just come home and to stop with the theatrics. I told her that I’m sick of having all this old “nerd” stuff crammed down my throat and just once I want to have a normal time watching normal Christmas movies and not having to pause for “lightsabre battles”.”

Thought this would be an interesting question. How could JKR have ended the Harry Potter books that would have most pissed you off or made you angry?

Harry choosing to get on the train when Dumbledore made the offer, essentially choosing to die rather than to live.

Ron being killed in a stupid and/or pointless way. I could accept him dying in a way where he saved lives, doing something really brave, but it would have pissed me off a lot if he died by some other means, or some reasonably pointless death.

The discussion of JK Rowling naming the only East Asian character Cho Chang has recently resurfaced on my twitter timeline, and people seem to be angry at this representation of a Chinese girl.
HOWEVER, I am a Chinese girl with a Chinese name - I grew up in England, and my sister and I were the only Chinese kids at our school. Cho Chang was the first Chinese character I encountered whilst reading. I felt seen. Her name, and even the fact that she was the only Chinese girl (that I knew of) at Hogwarts, resonated with me. I also think this reflects the time in which JK Rowling wrote the books: there just wasn’t as many Chinese people in the country as there are now.
I don’t think the problem is Cho Chang - I think it’s that I haven’t come across another relatable character (ethnicity-wise) whilst reading.
I just needed to vent today… exam season is taking its toll on me…

Fang the Boarhound knew that he must not speak now.

I understand being a massive fan of something. Hell I love LoTR but I don’t spend hundreds on the merch. I just think it’s a bit cringe for 30 somethings to be so obsessed with a secondary school that doesn’t exist.
