Japanese alcohol for 21st birthday present

Hi y'all, a good friend of mine is really into Japanese culture and he just turned 21. He's already bought himself some cheap Japanese ciders (or something like that), and I was hoping to get him a bottle of something a little more expensive--something I know he wouldn't justify buying for himself. Something like $100-150 range.

I know very little about Japan and I know very little about alcohol. Any ideas are welcome!

Rejected alcohol on my 21st birthday (NY), pretty embarrassing

So this morning, I went to a gas station to try to buy my first alcoholic drink. My license is expired so I gave the clerk my passport. This was not the problem, it was valid. The issue was that the clerk said she would not sell me alcohol until the day after I turned 21. I know she’s well within her rights to refuse the sale, but what I want to know is if there’s a policy that causes the clerks to not sell on someone’s 21st birthday. I mean, it’s in the name, you turn 21 on your birthday. Thus logic would have it that you’re old enough to buy it on that day.

21st birthday ideas for someone who never goes out and doesn’t care about alcohol

I’ve been living here my whole life but I usually only leave my apartment for work or shopping so I’m stuck on this one. I’m not opposed to having a drink or two but I need to be able to go to work the next day so nothing crazy. Also I’ll most likely be by myself if that influences anything. Thank you for your time

My alcoholic parents ruined my 21st birthday :(

So my birthday falls on December 26th, right after Christmas, and well my alcoholic parents always seem to mess things up around the holidays. This thanksgiving actually went smooth and give me some relief that my parents would stay sober throughout the holidays.

Now fast forward to December, my mom was planning me a big birthday party, but I made her cancel it because of COVID. I didn’t mind not having my friends around, it’s usually like this every year because of Christmas being the day before my birthday.

I had told my parents that I did not want any drinking at my birthday celebration & that they could just give me money to buy myself a bottle or something, that way they wouldn’t have to go to the liquor store.

Well, my dad ignored that and bought white claws, that he insisted were for me. At my moms apartment we were eating and relaxing but I noticed my dad was acting different. He made a comment on my weight while I was taking a photo and I instantly knew that he had been drinking. He did the same thing last year when he was wasted on my birthday. My mom was also repeating the same things to me throughout the night so I had become suspicious that they were both drinking. Once they were gonna leave so my boyfriend and I could drink without them around, I went into the kitchen and noticed the white claws were not in the fridge. Both of my parents lied to my face when i confronted them about the missing alcohol. It hurts my soul that my parents did not respect my boundary and ruined my birthday. I am just so angry that they chose alcohol over me, all I wanted was for them to be sober but instead they made my birthday such an awful day. I can’t even look at pictures from my birthday because it just reminds me of how they drank and then lied to me.

My dad is an alcoholic in 30 years of sobriety, my 21st birthday is coming up. Advice needed.

My extended family usually does a birthday party for all of us that were born in that month, and some of my family are drinkers. I have a feeling I’m going to be offered drinks and be gifted alcohol on my birthday. What can I do to make it easier for my dad? I live with my parents so I obviously wont be bringing alcohol gifts home, but is there anything I can do to make it less uncomfortable for him? Should i not drink that day?

Its my 21st birthday coming up and my friends don't understand I hate alcohol

Hii its my 21st birthday coming up, I'm the last in my group of friends to turn 21. I've always hated alcohol. My family growing up has some alcoholics which already mentally put me in a position of disliking the idea of it. And I recently have been diagnosed with bad rosecea. My rosecea is a HUGE self condifence issue for me since my face turns red hot, swollen, bumpy and even weeps...its quite painful at times. I just look nasty and withdraw from the world when my face flares. Alcohol flares it so badly to the point where I'm paying for it days after, even just after having 1 beer. I'm such a lightweight too and I HATE the feeling of intoxication (of any degree of anything) even half a beer makes me feel extremely un-comfy with headaches, stomach issues, nausea. I experience nothing positive, only negative from alcohol.

Now the issue:

I have 4 friends. 2 of them are very sensible and "normal" (as in not extreme) when it comes to alcohol. They don't see it as some "forbidden fruit" type of thing.

My other friends though, one is almost an alcoholic. She just consumes anything in sight with alcohol anytime. She drinks until she vomits then drinks again at least 3 times a week. I personally think her habits are nasty. They're always getting completely wasted, stumbling around, ect. Just the complete opposite and extreme compared to my other friends. At their birthdays I've always been supportive, I barely would drink but I was there for a good time and thats what matters. Now since it's my birthday coming up, they're all saying how I "have to go to a bar" or that I "have to get drunk on my 21st". And things along those lines. I've explained to them my position soo many times and they either just don't say anything, understand or believe that I'm physically discomforted by alcohol. They've seen me when I've had a flare during school (probably from heat) and expressed concern because I look so miserable so they do know how bad my rosacea is.

To me turning 21 is just as special as turning 13 or 54 like it's just another year. I've explained that I just wanna go out to dinner, get some ice cream after and hang out with my friends. No one seems to respect that (except my two reasonable friends) and I feel like I'm a "loser" or a party pooper because I'm always like "sorry guys I cant I'll get sick" "my face hurts" ect....like I'm only 20 and I act like I have so many health issues which makes me feel bad about myself. My bday is in August and I'm already

Just tipped all my alcohol out, I have a 21 day goal in mind just in time for my sister's 21st birthday.

I plan on suprising my sister and flying home for her 21st birthday and starting tonight I'm going to be sober until then.

Giving up completely might be an option after that but I certainly want to drink with her on her birthday.

I have been drunk for the last 12 days after breaking my 17 day streak.

I know this is not the normal goal you guys aspire to but I feel this is the best I can do in trying to take back my life from the drink.

If I can complete this then in the future who knows maybe I'll have the strength to make a bigger goal.

Australia's covid rules are finally being relaxed and it seems like a great time to do it.

Thank you to the mods on this sub, we have had our moments but you truly are a great souce of inspiration.

[Advice] My 21st birthday is soon and I'd like to be able to have a drink on it- has anyone found an alcohol that effects them less?

Hi all, I hope this finds everyone well.

I turn 21 next month and would really like to be able to have a drink with friends. I know alcohol doesnt suit any of us well, however I was wondering if anyone has found a drink that effects us "less badly".

I know we are advised away from ciders and beers due to the fermentation, so I thought I'd mix a spirit with sparkling water or lemonade (I'm a light weight and not much of a drinker so this is to pace myself and keep me as hydrated as possible).

However- even though I've heard spirits are the "best" alcohol for us- I'm concerned because they (in my mind) are the strongest alcohol.

Is anyone here a drinker, and if so what would you advise? Would a wine or champagne be less harmful than a spirit? Or should I write off alcohol all together this year? Thanks.

21st Birthday and I’ve Never Drank Alcohol Until Today

Howdy! I just had my first alcoholic drinks today on my birthday! I’m kinda sad that most of the stuff that I bought I don’t particularly care for so I’m asking for some recommendations.

Here’s what I had today

β€’ Dry Rose Botabox: I couldn’t drink this it just honestly burned, so I’m giving the rest away

β€’ Mine’s Hard Lemonade: OMG this is really good and I know I’ll continue buying this

β€’ Budlight Beer (in a glass bottle if it matters): why does beer taste like piss water?

β€’ White Claw Raspberry: Was okay are first but as I drank more I liked it a whole lot

I’m looking for different spirits and I know they’re mixers and stuff but I have no idea where to start. Any recommendations are appreciated and I hope your staying safe and healthy!

Troy’s 21st birthday alcohol inspiration

This is the first time I’ve ever watched Community, and I’m a little sad I’m this late to the party. However, I’m glad to be a part of your community (he he, sorry).

I’ve now, officially, connected with community more than any other sitcom. I don’t drink because alcohol has always had a very negative impact on my life - and for the first time, in any sitcom ever, I can finally connect with someone on a sitcom who can look at a substance and feel a similar way.

I’m not saying anything is wrong with alcohol or anything, but just, for the first time in my media-filled life, I feel like I can truly connect with a character and I love this show so much more.

It's my 21st birthday and I've never touched a drop of alcohol before, AMA?

Hey, guys! I'm a college student that just turned 21 as of ~5 o'clock this morning and decided I'll celebrate it by buying myself my first drink. I've been planning this for a bit by now and am looking forward to finally trying out this stuff!

Additionally, I'm by no means prudish in my attitude towards drugs & alcohol since I already have plenty of personal experience between weed and LSD.

Feel free to ask me anything about my birthday, drug experiences, thoughts on drugs/alcohol, or myself!

Update log:

-Went to the local booze shop and picked up some decent looking bourbon to split with my friends!

-Going to my last class of the day. Will be back by 3PM (EST) or so. May pick up some snacks while I'm out.

-Back for a couple hours. Really happy to see this post doing well!

-Leaving for dinner in my mess hall. Probably will come back at around 6PM (EST) for another hour before I start my birthday party.

-Alright, showtime. Party's going to start soon but you have me for a little bit longer! Just waiting for other people to get ready.

-I'll be back in a few and happy to answer any new questions at the next best opportunity! Ta ta for now.

-Party is over and I've got a little more time for chatting. Here's a link to my thoughts about my bourbon!

-I've sobered up a little bit and going to sleep for a bit. I'll continue answering any new questions in the morning. Good night!

-Morning everyone! A couple more hours until the post gets buried if it isn't already. if you have something, then go for it!
