It was super fun, and made me consider positive aspects of every film I watched, even the ones I didn’t necessarily love. It also helped me cut down on recency bias when I made my ranked list at the end of the year.

I had running “long lists” all year, and finally selected a winner for each category after New Years. It gave me something to look forward to all year, and something fun to think about whenever I was bored.

I’m doing it again for this year, and I recommend you guys do it to!

Who do you all think are winning at the 2020 Oscars. Complain all you want about "2020 was a bad movie year" or "Oscars are dumb". This is a prediction thread for who's nominated regardless and who might or should win. Below are where I feel races are at and what could still transpire.

• Best Picture: Nomadland. The PGA win said a lot. Nomadland has a firm lead on the rest of the pack, but no race is cemented. Still fighting for the win are Trial of The Chicago 7 (SAG Win helped a lot), and I feel both Minari and Promising Young Woman have a fighting chance. There's been a lot of Minari support coming out as people feel very strongly about that movie, while PYW also has passion, and is still a frontrunner in Actress, Original Screenplay, and is fighting for Editing, a combo that has lead to Picture before.
• Best Director: Chloe Zhao-Nomadland. DGA will be the tell all. This race could turn into 2010, where David Fincher won everything then lost DGA and then the Oscar. Zhao is so safe it's hard say who could unseat her. David Fincher for Mank seemed to be 2nd, but all he has for him at this point is that he's the only previous nominee, but it's now seeming like he'll have to win in the future.
• Best Actor: Chadwick Boseman-Ma Rainey's Black Bottom. RIP, he's been steamrolling. Hopkins could be the only possible threat, if he takes BAFTA, but I strongly doubt that's happening and he's won before. It's very unlikely the Academy does not honor him.
• Best Actress: Carey Mulligan-Promising Young Woman. Honestly who fucking knows? 3 Televised awards, 3 different winners. Plus a 4th at BAFTA. I think the safest to count out is Kirby, who's not in a Picture nominee, unless she wins BAFTA, then we're back in the same boat. I'm staying on Mulligan as she's the face of her movie which is still a Best Picture nominee and is seen as overdue for a win at this point. But I'm not confident.
• Best Supporting Actor: Daniel Kaluuya-Judas & The Black Messiah. See Boseman. Dude is steamrolling, a previous nominee at the right time in his career and given a firecracker performance. Also a hometown boy so pretty safe at BAFTA. Only drawbacks I see is Stanfield possibly splitting votes, but I think it's comparable to 2017, where Rockwell and Harrelson got nominated for 3 Billboards, but Rockwell still got the win. Plus it's hard to see who is in 2nd, so I'm staying with Kaluuya.
• Best Supporting Actress: Youn Yuh-jung-Minari. She desperately needed SAG. She seems the sa
