A list of puns related to "Oscars 2020 Food"
Looking for some hopium to keep going. Help me out. :(
The other day I posted a series of quotes from Pope Francis on his perspectives. I thought I would continue in terms of showing the perspective of prominent Christian leaders. And Oscar Romero was one I thought would be a natural successor to Pope Francis. Just like Francis, he is from Latin America. Just like Francis he was someone who had both traditionalists and progressive tendencies. Fiercely traditional in his views of Christian doctrine. But equally fiercely committed to social justice.
He was the Archbishop of El Salvador in the 1970s during a Civil War and his sermons called for social and economic justice in the face of repression by the police and political authorities as well as vicious death squads that murdered, tortured and raped thousands. These death squads were trained by the American government for Cold War purposes. As a result of his outspokenness he was assassinated in 1980. He has since been canonised as a Saint by the Catholic Church. Moreover his assassination is recognised as a significant event globally with the United Nations proclaimed a day in his honour. His sermons inspired a whole generation of priests, bishops, peasants and indigenous communities in central and South American struggling for social justice. Here are some of his quotes. They are largely said in the context of El Salvador's Civil War where Romero is seeing political and religious turmoil as well as death. These are his meditations:
"The churchโs social teaching tells everyone that the Christian religion does not have a merely horizontal meaning, or a merely spiritualized meaning that overlooks the wretchedness that surrounds it. It is a looking at God, and from God at oneโs neighbor as a brother or sister, and an awareness that โwhatever you did to the least of these, you did to me"_The Violence of Love(A Pilgrim Church, March 14, 1977)
"As Christians formed in the gospel you have the right to organize and, inspired by the gospel, to make concrete decisions. But be careful not to betray those evangelical, Christian, supernatural convictions in the company of those who seek other liberations that can be merely economic, temporal, political. Even though working for liberation along with those who hold other ideologies, Christians must cling to their original liberation."_The Violence of Love(A Pilgrim Church, June 19, 1977)
"The Christian must work to exclude sin and establish Godโs reign. To struggle for this is not communism. To struggle for this is not

This one is especially nice in that they have similar categories a lot of the time, although I am skipping some like documentary/foreign/song where Oscar rules can be strange. Since Critic's Choice over nominates a lot of the time the focus is going to be on films that missed CC but made Oscars. (Will include lists of who missed for Picture, Director, Actor, and Actress only).
There is a lot of info here but the take away if you don't want to read is that the winner in the categories are almost for sure nominated here, the winner might match but its very hit or miss, and there is almost always at least a one or two films that get in to every category (yes every category) that is missed by these awards. [Note: Chance I've done some counting errors on any category, if I have please let me know.]
