McConnell said among other things: βIβm very optimistic. We have 50 Republican senators. I know what a real minority looks like. We had 40 after President Obama got elected. And so I think the wind is going to be at our back in both the House and Senate. I think thereβs a great likelihood of a pretty good election next year.β Β Referring to his old age McConnell noted he has been around for a while: 71% of the American people say weβre going in the wrong direction, I donβt remember 71 percent wrong track before.β
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy similarly has been asserting he thinks itβs possible House Republicans pick up 60 or more seats. [This midterm election year, all 435 seats are up for grab.]
There are 34 U.S. Senate seats up for regular election in 2022β14 seats held by Democrats and 20 held by Republicans.
Is this outlook a little over the top for the Republicans. Does their confident predictions overlook the fact that there are presently 20 Republican seats up for re-election next year while only 14 Democratic seats are up for grabs?
Since I'm about to release some mods in the next few weeks (All of 1848 will be coming first since I'm just checking stuff over a final time) I've decided to start my next major mod, the 1994 New York Governor race. It's actually a pretty interesting election as I read more about it, and I'm pretty in tune with New York politics since I'm a New Yorker. It will not be coming out for a long time but I thought I'd let everyone know I'm making it, have started questions though, and have put in some other stuff.
Here are some small previews:
Again these are both pretty basic but they are just there for now. I'm also adding the county each candidate is from since I feel like that is important. Vps will be pretty basic as I'm just probably going to pick their IRL running mates unless someone gives me ideas for some alternate ones

[Like the 2021 VA Governor mod (which I'm excited for) I decided to go the extra step and use a county map for this. I put the NYC boroughs in the boxes at the side, since they carry big weight in how NY votes, plus they are where Mario Cuomo's base was so it would be helpful. ](https://preview.redd.it/2fvqh9ade4d81
... keep reading on reddit β‘Hey folks, as you fellow political nerds are no doubt painfully aware, VA is holding its election for governor today. They do it in off years to get attention, I guess.
But since there's bound to be all sorts of discussion relating to his and updates throughout the day, we're posting a megathread to contain the topic for today (and only today). Given that, if you have links to share on the topic, please do it here instead of submitting a new link post.
Thanks!
