Zenigata Heiji Puns

I'm really interested in the pre-existing characters referenced in Lupin the 3rd and I want to read and watch the media they're coming from to better understand the characters' histories. Arsène Lupin, Lew Archer, and Sherlock Holmes have been easy, but I can't find much on the ancestors of the two other main characters: Goemon and Zenigata. As you probably know, Inspector Zenigata is the grandson of Heiji Zenigata, a Japanese Detective character by Kodō Nomura, and Goemon is the descendant of a real legendary outlaw of the same name. So far, my search for media pertaining to them in English has hit a standstill. With Heiji Zenigata, I've only found a single book containing the first ten volumes by Kodō Nomura translated into English, and one movie: "Heiji Covers All of Edo" on a sketchy website with English subtitles. Since Ishikawa Goemon was a real person and not a fictional character, there's not much about him other than history lessons and a single Japanese movie from 2009. There is, however, a single Kabuki play from 1778 called "Kinmon Gosan No Kiri" in which Goemon is the main character. There's very little information about it online. According to Wikipedia, only one of the five acts, "Sanmon Gosan No Kiri," is still performed and it's the only one translated into English, but I haven't been able to find anything in English. I did find what is apparently a reproduction of the one scene on YouTube, of course, without subtitles. If there's any script or film of Kinmon Gosan No Kiri in English or in Japanese, please show me, I would commission a translator. Any English Heiji Zenigata media would be appreciated as well.

I've seen many modern Japanese media, games, anime, etc. that reference the main character in Zenigata Heiji's tendency to catch criminals by throwing coins (Zeni) at them. I've never read Zenigata Heiji, however, and though I've looked around I haven't been able to find any explanation of why the main character does this. Is there an explanation in the text for this eccentricity? Is it just the conceit of the novel that throwing coins at people is especially effective?

Also, how much are the coins worth? It might seem like a trivial point, but I'm curious as to whether he's pummeling poor people into submission with his wallet, or just pelting them with pennies.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
