A list of puns related to "Working With Children Check"
Sorry for the confusing title, no idea how to word it.
I know each state has different working with children checks and different application processes (eg. Blue card in QLD).
I have a valid NSW WWCC. I applied for a QLD blue card two months ago however and havenโt heard back. I have a criminal record. 1 charge of common assault from 5 years ago. Super long story short I pushed a girl out of my way while storming out of a bathroom at a pub after an argument. Her Muk worked for police, I was charged, plead guilty. She was an ex-friend of mine and an AVO was also taken out. I received a section 10 in NSW (no conviction recorded) and I didnโt contest the AVO as my lawyer recommended not to at the time.
From what I can see, assault of an adult is not in the automatically excluded list of crimes on the blue card website. Yet Iโve still not received my card and thereโs no update on my application when I call. I also just applied for the South Australian WWCC and had to disclose the AVO (never been asked to in previous WWVC applications). I need one in every state for a telehealth counseling job I have been offered.
I guess I assumed that since I have a valid NSW check (applied and approved last month) that I would pass a working with children check in every other state. Given the lack of response from QLD Iโm starting to worry this may not be the case? Are some states stricter than others?
Sorry if my post is confusing! Happy to clarify any info if needed. Thanks!
So.... I was wondering this today.
If a persons job is being a priest, they're paid by the church to do this role, and they're dealing with children as a part of their job, why don't they have to have Working with Children checks done on them???

Mandatory Reporting
In Victoria, mandatory reporting ofphysical or sexual abuse is currently required of professionals such as doctors, nurses, police and school teachers.s We note that the mandatory reporting of suspected cases of child abuse does not currently apply to ministers of religion.
Nevertheless, if the Victorian Government extends mandatory reporting under the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005 to ministers of religion, we will fully comply with such provisions, as we already do in every country where such reporting is mandatory.
In the absence of a legal obligation to report, the decision to report an allegation is a matter for the victim and/or the victim's family. When elders contact the branch office ofJehovah's Witnesses, from jurisdictions where there is no mandatory reporting requirement for ministers ofreligion,

I recently applied for a paid WWCC today and I was told to wait for around 3-4 weeks before I can get it. Last year, I applied for a volunteer one and I got it in 2 working days.
How long does the paid one normally arrives? Thank you
Hi everyone,
I have been physically and emotionally abused by my parents, particularly my father, for a number of years, but it became especially bad in 2015-16 when he lost his job. In 2017, I developed complex PTSD, which was diagnosed by a psychiatrist, and resulted in a number of intrusive symptoms, including emotional dysregulation. When I was emotionally dysregulated, I was unable to control my actions, and this resulted in me acting out of character. It was only in the context of the family home with my parents, when they provoked me, but it resulted in some minor property damage, which the police charged me for. I was also charged with breach of intervention order and assault. I did not assault my parents, I only pushed them off me when they became aggressive. All charges were withdrawn because of the context and my complex PTSD.
In the time since, I have ceased contact with my father, but not my mother, and moved across the country. I have also had approximately 18 months of dialectical behaviour therapy with a psychologist, which has been very effective.
I am currently trying to acquire a 'Blue Card' (Working With Children Check) for my studies to become an allied health professional (would prefer not to be specific). Yesterday, I received a letter from Blue Card Services that stated my charges have raised concerns about my eligibility to hold a Blue Card and work with children. I also received several pages of statements written byย my parents and the police. I will not be working with children, but a Blue Card is a university requirement for all placements. I have also received an invitation from Blue Card Services to outline my version of events, and provide additional information about why I think I am eligible for a Blue Card, including references.
I will be explaining that my offending was of a contextual nature, and I have been diagnosed with complex PTSD, which I have received treatment for. I will also be providing a letter from the psychiatrist who diagnosed me, and my treating psychologist.
I am, however, concerned about outlining my 'version of events', because the statements I have been provided with contain great detail, and I simply do not remember the events in such clarity. I probably have approximately 4000 words worth of statements. The offending period was 2017-18.
How would you recommend addressing this? How do I respond to the statements, when I do not remember details?
Many thanks in advance!
I was contacted this morning by someone who coordinates volunteers that work with children. As is typical these days, this organization (and their insurance policy) requires people who will be working with children to undergo a background check, which she is responsible for initiating.
Apparently, one potential volunteer was hesitant to authorize the background check. Obviously, I only have second-hand information about what he said, but as I understand it, he's concerned about the private background check causing issues with work-related background investigations. The volunteer coordinator seems to think it's related to a security clearance, but I'm not sure if that was an explicit claim by the volunteer or just what she assumed based on the fact that he works for the government and you can't swing a dead cat in central Maryland without hitting a cleared person.
She pinged me because she knows I work in government and have some level of knowledge of this stuff. And while I do have a bit more knowledge about government personnel security than most people, it's not my area of expertise and I only get involved in it occasionally and peripherally.
Hanlon's Razor tells me that this probably just some misunderstanding on the volunteer's part and he's not trying to hide anything. She tells me that he's relatively young, so I'm guessing that he's probably either actively undergoing an initial investigation or was cleared relatively recently. I suspect one of two things: He misheard/misunderstood something that was said to him about the process, or he's concerned that the activity generated by the private investigation would cause issues (e.g., activity on his credit reports). And since he's young, he's likely more intimidated by/enamored with the whole "security clearance" thing.
To my knowledge, there's no good reason to be concerned about this. Even in the unlikely scenario that this background check would raise a flag, it's not like he wouldn't have the opportunity to explain it, and I cannot remotely imagine a scenario where "I had this done because I was volunteering to work with children" would disqualify him.
BUT, I readily admit that this is not my area of expertise, and it's entirely possible I'm missing something. So I told her I'd ask around and get back to her. I plan to ping a personnel security expert at my agency, but I figured I'd throw this out to the Reddit hive mind as well and see if any of you have a brilliant thought.

He was taken back by this and really concerned. I also brought up the three recent news stories involving Mormons that had been arrested for molesting kids as examples how inspiration works.
He also explained if something like that could happen at their congregation, immediate action would be taken with local police(not a phone # to a law firm). With immediate apologies and corrective action taken to assure members would feel safe there with their children.
It's an amazing difference how another religion values their members and truely wants to protect them, acknowledging their not perfect vs. the Mormon church that never apologizes and hides behind lawyers to protect their sexual predators.
Hi r/autism! We're a group of students from the UK working on the development of an application to help children affected by ASD at school, we have created a basic prototype of the application we want to make, and we'd like your feedback to help us make it as useful as possible. Before you check out the prototype, we'd like to tell you a few things that you should know to understand how our application works:
Our approach is to create two seperate applications, one (Application A) would be used by the child, the other (Application B) would be used by both the parent and teacher. The applications are multi-functional, here's a quick summary of things we plan to implement:
#Application A:
##"I am angry":
A function the child can use when they feel confused, stressed, frustrated, angry, etc. We know that sometimes situations can be difficult to cope with, this function is here to help with that. On pressing the "I am angry" button, the child will be taken to a page with a calm, self-repeating, ever-lasting animation on the screen, this is designed to draw the child's attention away from whatever may be causing them distress, and towards something they may find calm and soothing. We also want to make the animation changeable, so that it can be changed to be a different animation, timer, loading bar, or even a simple picture that the child may find calming that would have been setup earlier. Once the button is pressed, the teacher will be notified through his/her own app, so that he/she will be aware that the child is in distress, and may try to help fix whatever the issue may be. To help with this, the child is given the option to type in an explanation of what is caused him to have pressed the "I Am angry" button, which will be viewable to the teacher. This function allows a teacher to be notified of a problem without the need for direct confrontation and communication between the child and teacher, which is generally to be avoided when an ASD-affected child is in distress.
##Schedule and "My Tasks":
The schedule operates similarly to any other schedule, but it can be prepared and edited remotely from the parent application. For each element, the parent includes a time, duration, description, and has the option to include a picture (this can be taken from the phone's library of pictures), for example the parent could put "Adam brushes his teeth", "7:15pm", "duration: 5mins" and include a previously taken picture of Adam's toothbrush.
The "My T

Iโve gone to a different camp my whole life, so this will not only be my first time at this new camp BUT the first time iโll be closely working with kids while i have visible (healed) self harm scars. I have a bunch of scars right there on my fore arm, and they are simply put very visible. Iโll be working with a range of ages from 7 to 14, so if someone could give me gender advice on how to approach the situation for a wide range of age groups that would be greatly appreciated. iโm guessing the younger kids might not know exactly where they come from but Iโm assuming the older children will be able to pick up on it. my questions are
What should i say if asked what they are?
If the kids are very young should i lie/what should i say?
To avoid uncomfortable conversations or position triggering a child, should i always lie?
these are all the question i can come up with now, but i leave in roughly 2 weeks and iโm afraid because i donโt know how to handle the situation, thank you so much for any help. :)
IF YOU DONT PERSONALLY HAVE ADVICE PLEASE SHARE OR UPVOTE I REALLY NEED ALL THE HELP I CAN GET THANK YOU SO SO MUCH
Hello r/gradadmissions!
The Indiana University School Psychology program is hosting two information sessions in the next month for prospective applicants.
These information sessions will be held over zoom. Sessions will include a brief presentation by professors Dr. David Shriberg and Dr. Lisa Aguilar and breakout sessions with current graduate students in the Ed.S (Educational Specialist) and PhD programs.
The Ed.S. degree is a practitioner-oriented program that requires a minimum of 65 hours of graduate credit. The student takes course work in three primary areas: professional studies in school psychology, psychological foundations, and research/inquiry methods. In previous years, 10-14 EdS students have started the program each year.
The program includes coursework on role/function issues, assessment, interventions, and consultation, and practicum each semester, followed by a 1200-hour full-time school-based internship. In addition, the student selects a minor, usually in special education or counseling.
Graduates of the Ed.S. program are eligible for certification as a School Psychologist in Indiana as well as in other states due to the program's accreditation by the National Association of School Psychologists. During their two years on campus, Ed.S students are placed in school-based practica each semester.
The PhD program in School Psychology prepares graduates to become a practicing school psychologist, conduct independent research, take a leadership role in special education, or prepare for private practice.
Completion of this 94-credit hour degree program takes most students five to six years of full-time study. In that time, youโll complete at least 800 hours of practica and 1,500 hours of internship work, which will give you the experience youโll need to earn licensure. Youโll also conduct field-based research under the guidance of a faculty mentor. You will also complete a PhD minor with many students selecting Special Education, Counseling Psychology or Educational Leadership.
The PhD program does not admit to specific professors but rather uses a cohort model to allow prospective students choices for selecting a doctoral advisor. Regardless, the majority of students who accept an offer to the PhD program have 1-2 faculty members they would like to work with on independent research. In 2021, 4 PhD students accepted offers of admission and entered the program. Funding is
