Revelations abound in this battle of man versus god-machine...
James was about to return home when, faster even than his mind could fathom, darkness descended and he felt pain course along every nerve fibre in his body. He heard the others cry out, but it was faint, distant, as if they were miles away instead of mere feet. He felt - he thought - the ground below him as his legs buckled, and more pain lanced up his legs as he dropped to his knees. Fighting through the pain, he willed his body to fight off the attack - but nothing happened. His mind was working still - so were his powers - but all the same, nothing was happening.
They were dying - all of them. He could feel his muscles atrophying as he knelt hunched over, wasting away in spite of everything. He, Natalya - all of them - God, how much longer could they survive this? Even his heart was becoming weaker, he could feel it.
"Hello, friend."
Pelkarin looked askance at the white-bodied sentry turret and continued on, through the shimmering, semi-transparent barrier and into the hangar. He heard a whirring sound above him and ducked as a mechanical armature sped along the new overhead rail system, whilst a white, spherical camera on the end spun around.
"Oh, hey! Sorry, didn't see you there. Totally missed you. Sorry. I was just, uh, getting something, yes, getting something. Very important, can't talk about it, so..."
Pelkarin stood and watched as the camera made its ridiculously awkward excuses and went on its way, then turned to one of the engine-singers. ~I get that they're a big advance in terms of computing, but are you really sure they're useful?~
The engine-singer shrugged. ~Beats me. Management says that our overall efficiency's gone up fifteen percent since they were installed, but I dunno. Not like anyone would listen to the likes of you or I anyway, and I heard the last person who complained was sent away for rehabilitation. So, clocking off?~

Mods... If you exist... Please, stop this madness. Rule #6 should simply not allow NSFW or (wtf) NSFL tags. Also, remember that MINORS browse this subreddit too? Why put that in rule #6, then allow NSFW???
Please consider changing rule #6. I love this sub, but the recent influx of NSFW tagged posts that get all the upvotes, just seem wrong when there are good solid DAD jokes being overlooked because of them.

Keep in mind, my son is 4 years old, so everything is an original to him.
I had to work late into the evening yesterday, and he was just going to bed when I got home. I had left home for the office nearly 14 hours prior, had a long day, lots of meetings, traffic, etc.
When I walked through the door, I was exhausted, run down, and starving. My wife hugged me and asked how my day was, and I replied, "Done. It was a good day, but has got me exhausted. I just want to grab a bite and go to bed. I'm hungry."
From my son's bedroom, I hear him shout, "Hi Hungry! Nice to meet you!"
Not only did it make me laugh, but I completely forgot about how hungry and tired I was. I went to his bedroom, and we laughed together about it. It was exactly what I needed.
