TL;DR - wife is a lesbian, Wilson Cruz (Culber) is super nice.
I don't know if this will be of interest to this sub, but I thought I'd share.
To cap off my 2020, my wife recently realized she is a lesbian. This was not an overnight realization, but instead a couple years worth of questioning and working through various issues she has from the environment she grew up in. I have done my best to be supportive through all of this, and we finally separated back in September. (The divorce attorney wouldn't use "irreconcilable similarities" as the cause for divorce...lame.)
So, where does Star Trek: Discovery fit in to all this? We are still friendly and care a lot about each other, so we decided to still swap presents for Christmas. She knocked it out of the park! She got a cameo from Wilson Cruz to thank me for being supportive through everything, and she picked the perfect person to deliver that message. Emotional and genuine, it was exactly what I needed to hear!
So, thanks Wilson - your words meant a lot to me!

In my post, I go into detail about how my brother and I spent countless hours in our youth watching and bonding over Star Trek. He was gay, and passed away close to a decade ago. I can't get over how I excited I was over the show's decision to showcase not only a gay character but gay couple, and Rapp & Cruz did such a great job of making such a big deal seem so ordinary (in the best way possible). I tagged them both in my post without any sort of notion that either would see what I wrote, let alone reply. They were both thoughtful, kind and blew away my expectation of what to expect from those who help bring this show to life. I'm still just so stunned by it all and can't wrap my head around how meaningful it is for these two to recognize what this means to me.
