Both have high IQs who started out as technical experts. Are besties with superpowered blonde heroines (Supergirl and Buffy Summers respectfully). Both turned to the darkside and fought their besties and then reconciled with them. Both would eventually find out they are powerful sorceresses. Both are apart of Superhero teams (Supergirl's Superfriends and Buffy's Scooby Gang) and with them, saved the world on more than one occasion.

I used to be a Willow fan, but as I re-watched the shows as an adult, Willow has become my least favourite "good guy" character and my like has curdled into dislike.

Willow contrary to belief was a bit of a power hungry problematic character even before magicks entered her life.
Season 1 Willow uses her abilities as a computer nerd to assist the Scoobies illegally. She gleefully gets Cordelia and Harmony to delete an entire class project by tricking them. She has her first big fight with Buffy, because Buff questions Willow's judgement over Malcolm, in Willow's area of expertise, the net.
Season 2 sees Willow getting more intrigued by magic, I'd argue Jenny is just as much of a crush object to her as Giles (whose picture she has in her locker). She performs her first big spell after Jenny is killed.
The ensouling spell although powerful magic that Willow lacks the experience and training to do is achievable because Jenny laid it out step by step, even so it fails the first time. Until in the hospital a power conducts itself through Willow (another user laid this out much more eloquently in the Angel subreddit so credit to them) and boom Angel is ensouled albeit too late.
During the S2/S3 summer holidays with Buffy on the run - Willow starts dabbling in magic properly. When Buffy returns no one aside from Giles takes it well, but Willow in particular makes it all about her and her issues - to hell with what Buffy went through (Xander is bad too but frankly we're used to him being a dick at this point).
Willow ghosts on meeting Buffy where they could have worked things out (slightly hypocritical as in her high handed speech to Buffy later in the episode she accuses Buffy of avoiding facing her issues and talking to them before she took off).
We see the gang hijack the reunion dinner into a party, normally Giles and Willow would be the voice of reason, but Willow eggs on Oz about it being a party. This could be avoidance of tackling the issues maturely, but also I think it's bit of her flexing that she is "cool" in her own right now, even without Buffy, Willow suddenly has social power through having a musician boyfriend.
The gang make up and we find out Willow has done a pagan blessing, a glamour to hide a pimple and tried to contact the spirit world. The biggest magic contacting the spirit realm went wrong and blew out the street's power - again showing Willow overreaching her magical capacity without considering
