So, I have succumb to the knife-bro phenomenon of having other stuff I EDC besides a zillion knives. Here's some stuff I've picked up from other communities I've forayed a tad into and it works for me so I hope it works for you.

WATCHES

Addiesdive, Steeldive.

They make a piece called the Willard. Named for Captain Willard from Apocalypse Now who wore it in that movie. Solid piece of steel, has NH35A movement, faux crystal that WON'T scratch. Change out the band to rubber 20mm, even something cheap on Amazon and it saves like 3oz. It's around $75-$100, depending, but it could be priced in the hundreds. Waterproof, durable, all that jazz. The Chinese watch guys seem to recommend this as the best cheapest bang for your buck you can get.

G-Shocks

Including because they're a cool experience to have and 'mire and very handy. A Squareface one as they're called have the lowest profile. The DW5600-E is the most basic entry-level model and holds the world record for being run over by a 55,000 pound truck without a scratch.... It's in the Guinness World Record website. They're $38 on Amazon, down from over $50. The 5610 is the same one with an atomic clock, and is solar powered. All G-Shocks are tanks and some are even tasteful (as a G-Shock can be). They sell dumb cheap used here, I got a couple good deals. Not sure if these are Chinese made but I'm including them because they're beyond amazing and will spoil you with the quality for the price.

For more watch stuff r/ChinaTime has cheap watches, and it looks like they have sellers on deck. They call these cheap watches, "shitters." Fun community. r/RepTime Describes itself as having '$300-$400 watches that mimic $2,000-$60,000 watches.' Have fun trying to keep up with the jargon in those places.

PENS

Hongdian Black Forest and Blue Forest. WingSung. Jinhao. Get ClaireFontaine paper. Noodler's Ink. Jinhao X450 is gold plated and smooth as goddamn butter. It's absurd quality for $8. These fountain pens punch above their price point like cheap Chinese knives we know and love. There's a list for recommended Chinese fountain pens that reviews them all thoroughly.

If you don't like fountain pens, try out a Twosun pen. eBay and WMK has them Cheap. I recommend them because they hold Easyflow 9000 ink better than Parker Pens do, which always let them wiggle. This ink is smooth as fuck and great if you have arthritis/tendon issues but don't care and keep writing. Easyflow 9000 will change your head about wr

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

I’m just about to finish reading D. Michael Quinn’s Early Mormonism and the Magic World View, and I’ve had an absolute blast with it. The book is fantastic, and I highly recommend it to anyone with interests in early Mormonism and the factors that influenced its formation. For those of you who don’t have the time/energy/interest to read it yourselves, I’d like to share my main takeaways from each chapter. The main benefit to reading the book yourself would be that Quinn provides a massive amount of information, context, quotes, sidenotes, and supporting evidence. This summary is pretty bare-bones, but I tried to pick out the points that really impacted my worldview and changed the way I think about Mormonism.

(NOTE: this Reddit post is not making any pronouncements as to the veracity of LDS truth claims. I just found Quinn's historical analysis to be absolutely fascinating.)
