A list of puns related to "Wilkes Barre"
My wife and I have been living in hotels for the last 2+ years but it's recently becoming unsustainable. A coworker of mine offered to let us stay with him for $650 monthly which we were all about because it's much cheaper than the hotel which was $350 weekly. So we decided that in order to have the money to move in we would just not pay the hotel until we moved in. Well that was about 2 weeks before we were notified we had to leave the hotel. Now we're staying at a lower quality motel paying $375 a week which wouldn't be too big a deal except I got a different job and my pay is only twice monthly. I told the dude every step of the way what was going on and he kept giving excuses as to why he didn't ever come help us move in as we dont have a car. Well now I find out he as of Sunday rented the room to someone else we work with and we're not sure what to do.
My house in Dallas has wood floors that need to be refinished. Are there any floor refinishers in the area that are reliable and hopefully not too expensive?
Married couple, mid 30s. No kids. We enjoy good beer, great liquor, bowling (badly), trivia nights, and other lower middle class white people cliches.
Weβre both a little nervous to be heading a place where we know absolutely no one, and are a little worried that making friends could be an issue.
Weβre a bit left of center, not loud about it (in person, online is a different story) and enjoy a good l conversation beyond sportsball.
So. Where would we go to meet like minded or slightly like minded singles and couples?
I appreciate the help!
I've been stuck in Bloomburg since yesterday, and staying at some hotel. I've been requesting ubers, and lyfts for the past half hour, but I haven't gotten any of them to bite. My flight leaves at 3pm, and I'm afraid I'm going to miss it, anyone have an idea, of what else I could do to make it there? Lady at the front desk says they don't even got standard cabs out here.
I have some money left, so I can give gas, but the people I've run into aren't really biting either.
Update: A can company came through, and was able to get me out of Bloomburg. To where I was able to uber the rest of the way to the airport. Currently doing all the check in stuff for my flight. I appreciate all the advice that I was given in the thread
Nothing but smooth sailing now.
So just for some context, Iβm 23 years old making 50k/year and Iβve currently lived in Downtown Wilkes Barre by myself for about a year and a half.
I moved here when COVID was at its peak in 2020. I had a job lined up here but just for extra security I took a dirt cheap apartment in Wilkes Barre for 550/mo. Honestly it turned out much better than I expectedβI love the place, my landlord is great and while Wilkes Barre generally gets a bad rep among locals, my place is in a relatively safe part of town and Iβve never felt unsafe or in danger. In fact I feel like itβs gotten better and livelier since 2020 now that the colleges are open again.
The downside is that my apartment is a studio, and itβs tiny. Weβre talking 200 square feet at the most, and while it served its purpose in the beginning, Iβm definitely starting to outgrow it. There are a few one bedroom apartments is my building but they are extremely hard to come by, and I donβt know if Iβll be able to get one anytime soon.
Out of everywhere I lived I prefer the Scranton/Wilkes Barre area the most. I know that may come off as a shock to some people; whenever I mention this to locals theyβre like βhow the hell did you end up hereβ lol. I donβt want to disclose exactly where Iβve lived before but it was expensive as hell, the job market sucked ass, traffic was a nightmare, and everything was so spread out that running everyday errands was a hassle and every bit of nature was replaced by strip malls and sub developments.
So anyway Iβve been in Scranton a bit more often and it definitely caught my eye, especially downtown. It seems like thereβs a lot more going on than Wilkes Barre, and some of the apartments look great. I havenβt heard many people talk about it and I reckon itβs because people generally try to live on the outskirts of town because of the high city taxes, and the preference to own rather than rent.
For me though, Iβd much rather live in the city instead of the suburbs. Even though some of the outer laying towns are very nice, it just wouldnβt suit my lifestyle. Iβve seen a few buildings like the Iron Lofts, 200 Adams Ave, and the Connell Lofts and was considering them if I make the move. What do you guys think? If you live downtown, do you like it and do you feel that itβs worth the money? Any feedback would be appreciated!

February 8, 1917. Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. 13-year-old Sarah Korson sits in her kitchen, brushing her hair. Suddenly, a man sneaks up behind her. He's holding a revolver. He tickles her under her chin and tells her, "You're a pretty nice girl. And that's awfully nice hair you have." Sarah wants to scream, but the man says he'll shoot her if she does. He pulls a pair of scissors from his pocket, cuts off a lock of Sarah's hair and flees the house.
Later, Sarah tells the police that she didn't get a good look at the man. The only details she can give is that he is of a medium build and was dressed all in black.
The attack on Sarah wasn't unique. By February 23rd, three other girls reported being attacked by a man wielding a pair of scissors. These girls were able to provide a few more details about his appearance: "a physical giant... six feet tall, heavily built and clean-shaven."
The second victim, a teen named Margaret McKeown, was attacked and had her hair cut around Valentine's Day. Two days later, her parents received a letter in the mail. The letter claimed the wrong girl had been attacked and the man who did the job would return. On February 22nd, the stranger came back. He attacked Margaret's 14-year-old sister Anna as she crossed the street. Her hair was cut.
The next day, 14-year-old Nellie McAndrew "was found hysterical in her home" at 9am. Nearly all her hair had been clipped off. Nellie told the police that a man had knocked on her door and asked for something to eat. When he realized she was alone, he pushed his way into the house. While Nellie tried to escape, the man removed scissors from his pocket and cut off her braids.
"Jack the Snipper" struck again the next morning. 13-year-old Florence Irvin had her hair cut off while she slept in bed with her mother. Florence's father told police that nothing was out of order when he went to work at 2am, but just six hours later Florence would wake up to find her hair shorn. There was a note left on her pillow: "Tell the girl next door I'll be back for her next week."
Two more attacks were reported on March 1, 1917. The evening before, a man came through the bedroom window of 22-year-old Barbara Feist. She said he covered her nose with a chloroform-soaked handkerchief and cut off her hair. The newspaper reported that Barbara had received a note from the 'scissor man' on the Monday before the attack. Burglar alarms were installed throughout the Feist home to alert the family in case anyon
... keep reading on reddit β‘I posted a few days ago about my father lost a huge pot when another play his cards into his, even though the dealer and everyone at the table knew which cards were which. While I think this is very problematic, I wasn't going to name and shame the casino, because I think this happens in a lot of places, and is more a general rule problem than a problem specific to the Mohegan Sun.
I changed my mind when my father returned to the Casino and asked the head of the poker room there if it would have made a difference if he had a chip on his cards or used a card protector. The man said no, it would make absolutely no difference if he used a chip or card protector - if dead cards touched his then his hand was dead, period, no matter what he did or how he was protecting them.
This is clearly insane, and as far as I understand it, not how other casinos operate.
Be forewarned: if you go to this casino, you are at risk of your hand being declared dead at any moment, with no recourse.
Anyone have any insight on the missing shows and why they are being held? Live album would be cool.
I just moved out here anybody got anybody folks or advice bout this lil ole town ? Iβm from PHILLY ?
