Altamont Pass railroads, including abandoned Southern Pacific line built in the 1860s/70s to link Sacramento with San Francisco as part of the Transcontinental railroad. That line was abandoned in 1984, but Western Pacific built their own line later through the area still used by Union Pacific/ACE

Pacific Railroad tree fell on grandmotherβs fence
A tree the railroad owns fell on my grandmotherβs fence damaging it pretty bad. A new fence will need to be put up. Weβve been calling that railroad for a month now and they have either been ignoring us or simply do not care. Weβre do we go to take care of this problem? Itβs their tree they should be held responsible.
She is elderly and retired. She shouldnβt have to spend the extra money she has to fix the fence.
Iβd do it but Iβm currently working two jobs and just do not have the time.

I'm no historian but in 1883 wasn't the town of Missoula Montana founded next to Fort Missoula when the Northern Pacific railroad opened there line through there.
I'm no historian but in 1883 wasn't the town of Missoula Montana founded next to Fort Missoula when the Northern Pacific railroad opened there line through there. I doubt to many people would have taken the Oregon Trail in 1883 when transcontinental railroads existed. Just the cost of supplies you could have had a nice train ride and your keepsakes in the baggage car. Beside that why wouldn't you take a steam boat up the Mississippi River and Join the Oregon trail there save yourself three months. I like the concept but there's to many issues for me to accept the storyline. Oh and in 1883 Dallas Texas got there first electric street lights, just for some perspective.

The Transcontinental Railroad passed through Bryan, Wyoming in 1868. Today it is a ghost town. In the satellite view is what is left of an obvious bridge over the Blacks Fork River. Is that from the original Union Pacific Line?
