I just there were more solutions for stablecoins like USDC, EURST and UST as much there are for USDT with an ACTUAL 1:1 collateral ratio cause honestly I refuse to have anything to do with Tether and all its lies.
I’m sure there will always be countries and cities too poor to be able to work with crypto and thus WU won’t necessarily go away, but will seriously diminish in significant.
I apologize if this is the wrong subreddit, but I really need advice on how to get my money back. As a background, I am an international student in US. I have been a customer of Bank of America since I came to US a couple of years back, and have also used Western Union to send money home.
On 15th November, someone hacked into my Western Union account and made four transfers of $2400 each to 2 different accounts. The transfers went to banks in my home country, but not banks I have ever done business with. I immediately informed Western Union and Bank of America about these transfers and also informed the local police department the next day. I also contacted the banks in my home country to which the money went to and was told that they will not be able to do anything unless Western Union contacts them asap. However, Western Union gave me a case number and told me that they have a policy of not contacting the banks and will not give any information (including the account details to which the transfer went to or the IP address and location from which the hackers accessed my account) unless prompted by the law enforcement. I informed about this to the law enforcement along with details of the banks to which the fraudulent transfers went to, but they were extremely lethargic about this and did not contact Western Union for a long while, which means that the fraudsters may have taken the money from their banks already.
Bank of America gave me a temporary credit for the amount in the end of November but informed me on December 21 that they will be taking the money back because they have “determined” that the transactions were authorized. They based this on the “fact” that Western Union had my name, address, and phone number. I sent a fax to them the same week explaining that my WU account was hacked which is why they had my information, and that Western Union had the account details of the banks to which the money went to as well as the IP address and location from which the transfers happened and will provide all of this to law enforcement. I also faxed them my police case report. In addition, I also filed a complaint regarding this in CFPB portal. I was told that my case was reopened for reconsideration on January 05th.
Last week, Bank of America’s compliance officer called me to inform me that my claim was being rejected again, and asked me to contact their claims department for more details as to why. I contacted their claims department multiple times

While I don’t think that Western Union will cease to exist entirely (especially considering that there are some countries that can’t use crypto due to unavailability of electricity and internet data), I do think that it will most definitely take a huge hit once we start going mainstream.
I live abroad and stopped using Western Union to send money back home. I use Binance and E-money and the fees that these crypto platforms have saved for me racked up fast.
Taught my parents how to operate a crypto wallet and from there on it was all smooth sailing.
Considering so many boomers will never be able to learn crypto, this might take sometime but it will happen slowly but surely.

Hey y’all. I was recently scammed a good amount of money with western union. Foolishly I bought something out of country on marketplace (in the USA) and my money was taken from WU with no item shipped in return.
I called the local PD of where the theft took place, and oddly enough they let me know that this person was detained and arrested for other charges but said they are unable to get my money back. If I wanted to I would have to fly to Texas and charge him in court to see if MAYBE the grand jury agrees with my charges. This also may take 3-5 years.
Is there anything that western union can do? Is there anything anyone advises at all? I hate how we have a system that doesn’t help fully.
Hey all, I have a question. I flying into Argentine on the 13th of january, so next week! Super excited. Starting my indefinite trip through South- and Central America.
When looking into the money situation, I've received a tip from another person who is currently travelling through Argentine. The tip was to use Western Union. As travellers, most of you will probably have seen all the Western Union offices throughout pretty much any country. I have never used it, nor did I know exactly what it was used for.
According to this person - and I have kind of verified it aswell - the exchange rate Western Union uses is more than 100% better than the exchange rates banks use. I am an economist and this seems super odd to me, hence the post aswell.
However, the situation currently is that if I google the exchange rate of 1 EUR to Argentinian Peso, I am receiving 116 peso's for my 1 EURO. I have made a Western Union account and if I send money there I would be able to pick up a whopping 231 peso's per EURO. That would mean my cash money has twice(!) the value.
Does anyone have experience using WU? Is this a common thing? I am I missing something?
