Who should take the WCW World Heavyweight Championship from Steve Austin?

I'm currently in April 1998, and Austin is my WHC, and I'm starting to thinking about who should take his title in the future (I think I will make him loose the title at Starrcade in December) , and here are the options that I have :

  • DDP (HEEL) (currently feuding with Austin, but honestly idk if I'll make him win)

  • Chris JERICHO (HEEL) (he's really over now, and this is my favorite pick for now)

  • NWO's Hogan & SAVAGE (HEEL) (they're in the midcard for now, waiting for three potential signings from WWF, and I don't really want to give them the title again)

  • STING (FACE)(he was the champ before and for now I have no special plans for him)

  • Warrior (FACE) (he has creative control so that's a NO)

  • Regal (FACE) (he's as over as Jericho, but I'd like to wait a little bit with him)

  • WWF signing (Bret Hart's contract is over in a month, and so as Kevin Nash and Scott Hall, so I wanted to book them as "The Outsiders" and make them feud with the nWo, but after that, bringing Hart to the WHC could be nice)

WCW split from the NWA and created their own world championship in 1991, and they went out of business 10 years and 2 months later. The championship existed for 9 more months as part of WWE.

The same Big Gold Belt returned as the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in 2002 and was used for 11 years and 3 months.

🚨︎ report
Jeff Jarrett won the WCW World Heavyweight Championship four times in a span of 43 days

WCW in 2000 may be the single worst year for a world championship in wrestling history, but the period where Jeff Jarrett held the title may take the cake as the worst month of the worst year.

It all started well and good on the April 10 edition of Monday Nitro, the infamous reboot episode where Vince Russo and Eric Bischoff came together on-screen as authority figures but also began their creative partnership. The following Sunday at Spring Stampede, Jeff Jarrett won the vacant WCW World Heavyweight Championship by defeating DDP in a tournament final.

What follows over the next six weeks should be printed in bold in how to devalue a championship.

April 16: Jeff Jarrett wins the championship for the first time

April 24: DDP defeats Jarrett on Nitro to win the championship

April 26: David Arquette pins Eric Bischoff in a tag team match to win DDP's championship (taped on April 25)

May 7: Jeff Jarrett wins back the WCW Championship for the second time in a triple cage match

May 15: Ric Flair wins the championship from Jeff Jarrett on Nitro

May 22: Flair is stripped of the title and Jarrett is awarded it

May 24: Kevin Nash wins the championship after defeating Jarrett and Scott Steiner in a triple threat match (taped on May 23)

May 29: Kevin Nash gives the title to Flair because Flair never lost it. Mark Madden, in a hilarious meta moment, said on air, "I think it's only a matter of time til Jarrett gets it back." Jarrett would win the title for the fourth and final time later that night. His reign would go an incredible...41 days.

Let's recap:

-In six weeks, there were 10 title changes

-Jeff Jarrett won the title four times, his longest reign in that period being eight days

-David Arquette held the record in that period for longest title reign with 12 days

-There were actually seven title changes in May, meaning WCW nearly had two title changes per week

-Not a single dime was drawn
