A list of puns related to "Vexillological Symbol"
I have been looking for a comprehensive list of all national flags that also displays their usage symbols. At the moment, I am forced to look through several sources that require opening separate links and heavily conflict with one another.
Also, if no one source is fully up to date, which is typically the most accurate? Thanks.
I'm really interested in flag, but I don't understand how they work, could someone explain it to me, please
Been a while since we've done one of these! Above is a full table of the current number of /r/vexillology users with each flair. We have a total of 1679 different flairs available (not including contest or symbol flair), and exactly 1200 of them are in use by at least 1 user. United States flair leads the way with 2724 users. All but 6 countries (5 in Africa plus Samoa) have at least one flaired users. The most common flair from each of a few different categories are:
As a reminder you can see these in higher definition at https://hd.reddit.com/r/vexillology if you like! Both standard and HD are supported, just stylistically different.
We'd also like to call attention to the new Flag Symbol Flair. This is principally intended for use as inline flair, but I suppose you could add it as user flair. This was requested by /u/Trerrysaur. Feel free to use this to help explain your flags and ideas, like if you have a Two-Sided flag .
Ok so now that I have your attention, allow me to give you some details.
I'm writing a story and in this story there is a Russian civil war between the current government, a fascist group, and a communist group. The communist group wins and takes over the country.
I have had a few arguments with the people helping me with this over if canonically the Russians should chamge their flag or if it should remain as the normal Russian flag
PS: This story takes place about 100 years from now
Let me reiterate here, I really dislike Nazis, nor stand for their actions. They are reprehensible and should be forever condemned.
But, when it comes to the design of their flag, the German Reich had good taste. The flag is so simple, yet so recognizable. The colors pop and work together really well. The flag can be hung vertically or horizontally and still look the same and can be easily emblemized. The swastika, aside from the extremely negative connotation the Nazis have given it, honestly looks visually appealing - it's probably a reason why it was used decoratively for over a thousand years prior.
Its symbolism is also well thought out, even though it is twisted. They chose red, white, and black deliberately to represent the 2nd Reich, the German Empire under Otto Von Bismarck, whose flag was a red, white, and black tricolor. Basically, those colors represented Germany prior to the Nazis since 1871 when Germany was unified. Technically, Hitler said the white represents nationalism (they were white supremacists, so that symbolism lines up) and the red represents socialism (which I guess at the advent of the Nazi Party, they were socialists who later became fascists). They chose the swastika to represent the 'Aryan race, which it does represent for people of Indo-European heritage. Sure his definition of Aryan in practice was warped, but the symbolism behind it was pretty clear.
Again, I hate Nazis, but their flag is somewhat vexillologically excellent. Vexillology is not a measure of evilness or righteousness - I think we can all agree the Nazi flag is always evil. I would never opt to own one, and I know this is a controversial view, but I was wondering what you all think?
