Is left ventricular systole the major driving force responsible for the ability of blood to flow throughout the systemic circulation and return to the right atrium?

It may seem a little dumb, but the doubt popped into my head. I'm not so sure, because there are still valves that are along the extension of the veins of the systemic circulation and maintain the flow, and maybe these impulses are the biggest force in this circulation, even because the LV systole has the help of gravity. I hope you guys help me with this!

How common it is for a single PVC to turn into Ventricular Fibrilation?

Anyone here have had PVC-induced VT or VF?

R-on-T phenomenon:

>The "R-on-T phenomenon" is the superimposition of an ectopic beat on the T wave of a preceding beat. Early observations suggested that R-on-T was likely to initiate sustained ventricular tachyarrhythmias.

Diving with PVC (premature ventricular contractions)

Hey all, wanted to get some opinions. I'm leaving for Bora Bora on a dive trip on Sunday. Over the past week, I have noticed some PVCs in my heart a couple of times a day. No pain, just a small extra beat every so often. Some days no extra beats, other days it happens more than 10 times. EKG does not show signs of atrial fibrillation. My doctor couldn't get me in to run any tests in time and I don't want to go into the ER and risk getting covid and missing the trip. (strict testing guidelines for French Polynesia) What are your thoughts on diving? Thanks in advance.

Question about Ventricular Fibrilation

Hello r/Cardiology members,

This is NOT a question for medical advice or to get an opinion. Simply a question to see who is educated on this matter.

I know the following to be true:

  1. "A pulse IS your heart rate or the number of times your heart beats."
  2. "There is NO pulse with ventricular fibrilation."

So, here comes the question: If there is NO PULSE (or heart beat) with ventricular fibrilation, WHY do all the definitions of ventricular fibrilation state: "Ventricular fibrilation is a life-threatening condition where there IS a RAPID irregular HEART BEAT?"

I have moderate left ventricular hypertrophy; 65 year old, male. What are my COVID-19 risks?

I am a 65 year old male with moderate lvh. I take 5mg of lisinopril/day which keeps my BP below 120/80 resting. I take 1000ui vitamin D3 daily (prescribed by my doctor before COVID). I walk 2 miles/day up and down hills which takes just under 40 minutes.

Throughout the pandemic I have assumed that lvh puts me at higher risk for hospitalization and death as a co-morbidity.

I have not been able to find specific information on the risks of lvh and COVID-19.

Am I correct in my assumption that moderate lvh puts me at higher risk similar to other heart problems?

How to tell Atrial Tachycardia from Ventricular Tachycardia by feel?

I (31m) have always been in good shape and not overweight, yet I've had high BP since I was ~22 and very fit. Some Lisinopril knocked that down to low 130's/80 or so for the last several years. I also got some palpitations going on and was put on Metoprolol mostly on a whim when I was ~25. That took care of the palps for a while, but they've been creeping back again. I can't simply up my Metoprolol because my resting HR is already low 50's and then dips down to low 40's at night (hit 39 once), so I'm looking to get educated on this a little more before meeting with my cardiologist again here in ~2 weeks.

I got a work-up done at my cardiologist and wore a monitor for a month that recorded:

- 13% PVC's

- 1 run of 5 PVC's, so that's been diagnosed as NSVT's

Annoyingly, I did not notice having an episode of the palps I originally came in for, so I'm still not really sure what they are. I also got an MRI and echo-cardiogram done - both of which were fine.

The palps I'm concerned about:

- Definitely 'switches' on and off and is very noticeable when it starts/stops. It is not gradual.

- Feels like it's beating 'twice as fast' (fast, but predictable timing), 'half as deep' (not a full beat), and 'twice as intense' (can really feel it pounding compared to my normal beat)

- Seem to happen the most when I'm exercising (biking in my case). I'll get them occasionally when I'm not exercising, but only for a handful of seconds (possibly just NSVT) whereas they can last for a up to a few minutes when I'm biking. When they hit, I stop immediately and sit/lay down, taking deep breaths, as I can sometimes start to feel a little light-headed (never got tunnel vision or passed out though). Once I've sat for a little bit, I'm no longer light headed even if the palps haven't stopped yet. After a while, my pulse will 'switch' back to the regular beating pattern and I'm good to go again.

Seems like both Atrial and Ventricular Tachycardia both 'switch' on and off like that and, since Atrial Tachycardia is "meh", but Ventricular Tachycardia can be more dangerous; I'd like to see if there's a way I could guestimate if mine are Atrial or Ventricular. As it stands, I ride with a cheap little 30 second ECG monitor I got from Amazon, so if it starts up again, I can hopefully slap that on right quick to catch it, but so far, I haven't had an episode while carrying my pocket ECG. It only happens for a sustained time frame once or twice a year, so it's rather el

HELP PLS. ECG left ventricular hypertrophy

Hello. I'm 23 years old I'm female. I have had heart and blood pressure issues since I was 14 and was diagnosed with postural orthodontic tachycardia syndrome. I stopped having episodes in about 2016. In 2018 I started getting this horrible chest pain and I thought I was about to have a heart attack. The pain would come for moments and then go away. Eventually it goes so bad that i got a fever from the pain and was borderline immobile and thought for sure there was something life threatening going on. Went to the ER, was told I was not having a heart attack and to follow up with regular doctor. 2019, same thing happened, same thing was told to me. 2020, same thing more than once and everytime I ended up at the ER I "was so sure that this time they will finally be able to tell me whats wrong." They never did. They did ECGs everytime and I was told it was normal. Usually by the time I left the hospital the pain was gone (went away on its own). Now. Its 2021. I have had random chest pain all year, unfortunately have not had insurance to get into cardiologist. I started having back and neck pain about a week ago that was so bad it was making me vomit. I barely was able to make it through Thanksgiving without crying and laying on a heating pad. I got a massage, used heating pads, iced my back and neck, took a bath, took pain medications, cbd, NOTHING HELPED. Then about 24 hours ago I was trying to fall asleep when my right shoulder got this dull pain and at this point I was done. I turned my light off ang got in bed to go to sleep. I rolled over to try to take some pressure off my neck and I got this strange shooting pain up my neck and INSTANTLY had a horrible migrane. My chest felt like an elephant was stepping on me, my feet are tingling and dripping in sweat, hands are clammy , what the fuck just happened. All that happened in a matter of a seconds. I got on my phone to call my aunt to see if she could drive me to the hospital because I could barely walk on my feet without falling over. By the time she gets here half my face is completely numb and my nose and lips are tingling. I could still close my eyes and smile and breath it was the strangest thing ever. She was worried I was having a mini stroke and was terrified and I honestly didn't know what to think at this point. She drops me off and I go in and they take me to the room immediately for yet another ecg. They said it was slightly abnormal but not concerning and took blood to confirm I wasn't having

Right ventricular concentric hypertrophy and tricuspid regurgitation?

In a UWorld question, this fact was mentioned:

Right ventricular hypertrophy (due to Eisenmenger syndrome) May lead to tricuspid regurgitation.

I thought AV valve regurgitations are due to ventricular DILATION, not concentric hypertrophy.
