Yingying Zhang was a 26 year old woman from China attending the University of Illinois for a year long research opportunity. Her love for education and passion to further her academic career has always been extremely admirable. She was loved and touched the hearts of so many during her time here.
**BACKGROUND/KIDNAPPING **
Around 1:40 pm On June 9th, Yingying boarded a bus in the Urbana area, headed off to sign a lease for an apartment, an appointment was running late for Yingying got off this bus around 1:52pm and tried to catch a second one that would get her to her final destination. Unfortunately, Yingying missed it by seconds as she was not able to cross the street to get to it in time. Because of this, she decided to walk to another bus stop, knowing it was only a few blocks away.
As yingying approached the stop, a black Saturn Astra is captured pulling up next to where she was standing by nearby surveillance cameras. She briefly talks to the driver, then gets in the vehicle.
Friends of Yingying became extremely concerned when she did not return from her leasing appointment, and eventually as it got later, one of Yingyings professors decided it was time to call the police and file a missing persons report.
Looking for answers, police searched to find the owner of the car Yingying had been spotted getting into before she disappeared. This ultimately led them to Brendt Allen Christensen, a 29 year old former Illinois grad student who lived in the area. At first, Christensen denied he had anything to do with her disappearance, claiming he had offered her a ride but she got creeped out and ran out of his car after he accidentally made a wrong turn. Obviously, police didnโt buy this, and it wasnโt long before they were able to uncover the real story and find Christensen responsible for the abduction and murder of Yingying.
THE EVENTS OF JUNE 9TH, 2017,
It is reported Christensen had fantasized of committing murder long before this event. He had finally decided to give into his urges, and on that afternoon he set out, driving around in search of a victim. Before Yingying, he had attempted to lure another woman into his car but she refused his offer for a ride.
He spotted Yingying when driving past the bus stop. He set his sights on her being a potential victim and circled back around to stop and talk to her. He offered her a ride, posing as an undercover

I am unable to decide between the two. A few key points:
โขThe program at TU Delft is taught in English despite being in Netherlands. However, working part time and conversing locally may require Dutch proficiency.
โขTU Delft ranks above UIUC in almost every aspect (as per QS world ranking)
โขTU Delft is significantly cheaper
โข Program duration: 3 years at TU Delft and 4 years at UIUC
โขUIUC offers more internships. UIUC has a lot more student organisations.
โขMany companies conduct career fairs on campus at UIUC.
โขUIUC has a strong alumni network (in general and specific to aerospace, both)
As a senior student or a working professional, what would you guys suggest provided that I want to have a career in aviation industry.
My questions:
1.) Graduating from which university would open better career opportunities for me?
2.) Is it true that in Europe EU citizens are preferred over Non EU citizens when it comes to employment?
3.) If I choose UIUC, considering the huge money involved, will it be worth it?
I am an international student. I have done my MBBS and MD (Community Medicine) from India. I have received an offer of 10K $ per year scholarship in the acceptance email but the tuition is still too much for me. This is really important for me since I am in a financial crunch presently. I wish to join UIUC (have been accepted at UAB too) because not only I love the university already but my fiancรฉโs family lives in Orland Park and sheโs also trying to move to Chicago from Nashville, so that we can spend time together after a long distance relationship of 8 years. It would be a great help if someone could guide regarding financial aid options for international students in MPH. Thanks in advance !

Wanted to start this AMA because I'm more than halfway finished with my MBA, going the online route through the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with their iMBA program, and wanted to give perspective on the online MBA experience so far, and answer any questions about online MBAs in general, and/or about the program specifically.

- Will not be discussing specifics on salary, but will give high level detail and percentages, as I believe financial return (paired with cost of program, to give ROI) is a critical measure of the value of an MBA program
Background
Earned my BBA in marketing and have been working at Dell Technologies for the last 8.5 years with roles ranging from sales, go-to-market analytics, merchandising, to having been a product manager for the majority of my team. Currently work as a business manager for one of our high performance compute lines of businesses.
I've been fortunate enough in my career to be able to work diligently and deliver results, to then be able to pursue interesting and higher responsibility roles throughout my time at the company. As a result, I've been able to advance at a fairly quick pace.
The MBA Program
In 2018, I applied to the iMBA program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (you can find out more info here) and was accepted to start in the Fall of that year. Among the major appeals of the program was:
- It was online (beneficial for a variety of reasons, but being able to continue to work was top)
- The price of the entire program was just $22K - for a reputable and established university, this was a very attractive proposition (employer also offered tuition reimbursement, which almost pays for all of it)
- Program attracted mid-career professionals, on average, which was interesting to me because I'd be able to work with and learn from others in other industries that have had extensive experience (vs early career professionals that might've worked for 1-2 years before pursuing an MBA)
Goals
Unlike what I see being discussed more often than not in this forum, **my goal of getting an MBA was not to go into investment banking or consulting

I haven't completely decided that I want to become an accountant, but it has piqued my interest. I live in Illinois and I heard that UIUC has one of the best accounting programs in the country and all of the Big 4 and well-known regional accounting firms hire graduates from UIUC.
If UIUC has such an amazing accountancy program, then surely thousands of students would be studying accountancy here and competing to get into a good firm. After a career/job fair, recruiters from well-known firms will have met with hundreds maybe even thousands of students. This would make it difficult for the recruiters to remember you specifically out of the hundreds of students they met. This is however all just based on my personal assumption, I am still in high school, but please feel free to correct me if I am wrong about this. Naturally, I'm assuming Seniors are the ones who get offered full-time positions. So my question is, how competitive is it to get a job offer from accounting firms after one of these fiars? What are the chances you would get offered a full-time job at one of the Big 4 or perhaps even a regional firm like Grant Thorton or even land a job at any size firm, small or medium?
I know I'm still quite far from graduating high school, but I can't help but worry about my future. It's become an unhealthy thing now. I've been spending upwards of 8-10 hours searching for degrees like B.S in Accountancy, B.S in Computer Science, B.S in Mechanical Engineering, and many more. As well as what college life is like, how competitive it is to get a job before graduating Senior year or even after graduating, what college life is like while studying for an accountancy degree. How are other accountancy students and professors like? Are they helpful, kind, caring, and supportive? I've been very stressed about this and I've only been thinking of the worst-case scenarios like what if I attend UIUC and don't get a single internship or job offer? I would have spent 4 years of my life in university for an accountancy degree and not even have a job after graduating. How can I stop worrying about the future so much and just enjoy life right now?
If you're currently a student at UIUC or maybe even a recent graduate who was accepted into a good firm, would you please share your experience? What is the career/job fair like? Is it common to get full-time job offers or internship offers

We plan to leverage the online teaching resources used during the pandemic to make significant progress on one of our aims to โCreate a modular, challenge-driven core curriculum that integrates co-curricular activities (Objectives 2, 4 and 5)โ. Since many of our courses have recorded videos and assignments offered through online platforms, we can pull these resources to create our modular curriculum repository. In addition, this will also help meet the need of offering similar content across our undergraduate, graduate, and certificate programs.
We believe that this modular education model will relieve stress on the distribution of credit hours over the curriculum. These modules will be delivered across the undergraduate, graduate, and medical programs, enabling interactions across programs, creating new opportunities for mentorship and formation. The modular format will be supplemented and organized by a curriculum-wide e-text to help students organize their knowledge and discover interconnections. E-texts will be developed alongside modules and will be organized by the postdoc and instructional designer.
This postdoctoral position will work with a team of faculty and students to support creating of e-text resources and a curriculum repository. The ideal candidate must work collaboratively and have excellent organization skills. Preferred skills include a STEM background/experience and experience in curricular design and assessment.

I applied to the University of Maryland, College Park and University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign for PhD in Information Studies/Sciences. The deadline for Maryland's iSchool was December 10 and that of Illinois' was December 1. My concern is that, I haven't heard from any of them. I understand there is still a lot of time ahead but I am getting anxious about the possible decisions day after day.
Please, is there anyone that applied to these universities and same department? Have you heard anything from them?
