Why exactly did the Soviet Union think boycotting the United Nations Security Council resolution authorizing member states to militarily intervene in the Korean War was a good policy decision instead of just vetoing it?

The veto is an extremely powerful tool on the UNSC. Since the UN was still relatively new, did the Soviet Union not realize at the time how powerful it actually was?

The United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325 states that all parties involved in a conflict must take measures to protect women and girls -- No Mention of Boys or Men, also victims of armed conflict.

"There has been no corresponding explicit recognition of how sexual violence is used against and affects boys and men in conflict situations. The use of language in resolutions from the Security Council is characteristic of how male victimhood has been treated in the discourse of sexual violence." ( Chris Dolan, Director of the Refugee Law Project at Makerere University)

"For many policymakers, practitioners and scholars, the term gender has become a synonym for women when discussing protection practices. The male perspective is often overlooked or essentialised. Although most victims of sexual violence are likely to be women and girls, this does not mean that men and boys should be made invisible in neither the policy debates nor in international protection practices in conflict zones, says TΓΈnnessen."

She argues that the protection agenda is characterized by a discourse which portrays men as combatants, whereas women and children are the only groups labeled as innocent and vulnerable.

It should read β€œdecided” not β€œdecides”, my mistake! I am meaning back when the UN was formed!

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 64%. (I'm a bot)

> The United States on Friday stunned other members of the UN Security Council by preventing a vote on a resolution for a ceasefire in various conflicts around the world to help troubled nations better fight the coronavirus pandemic, diplomats said.

> "The United States cannot support the current draft," the country's delegation declared, without further detail, to the 14 other Security Council members, after nearly two months of difficult negotiation over the text.

> When asked for an explanation of the US move, a State Department official told AFP that China had "Repeatedly blocked compromises that would have allowed the Council to move forward."

> "In our view, the Council should either proceed with a resolution limited to support for a ceasefire, or a broadened resolution that fully addresses the need for renewed member state commitment to transparency and accountability in the context of COVID-19," the State Department official said.

> The US turnaround "Is a very, very bad news for United Nations, the Security Council and multilateralism," said one ambassador from a Security Council member.

> Ironically, the Security Council was also engaged Friday in a major videoconference organized by Estonia, which holds the body's rotating presidency this month, on the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II. More than 50 ministers from around the world participated, most of them issuing a "Plea for multilateralism."

[UN] Resolution for the admission of the Republic of South Yemen into the United Nations - to the United Nations Security Council.

##Resolution for the admission of the Republic of South Yemen into the United Nations to the United Nations Security Council.

In accordance with the rules of admission into the United Nations and the deference to us and request of support from the Repblic of South Yemen the UAE would like to submit a resolution to the United Nations Security Council for the recommendation of membership to the United Nations of the Republic of South Yemen.

The Republic of South Yemen is a peace-loving state, having combatted al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula and stemming the tide of Houthi forces in such a way that ultimately led to a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Yemen. The Republic of South Yemen most importantly was not reborn from violent conflict but from democratic means through a UN monitored referendum which achieved a super-majority of the popular vote. South Yemen has a history independence from the North and history has shown that South Yemen is better served by pursuing their own interests as a sovereign nation bound by the rules based system which manages our international community.

Yemen has the ability to self-govern, maintain its territorial integrity and occupies a position of potential growth giving it a stable disposition.
