The United Nations Security Council has voted to adopt S/RES/22/104, authorizing the deployment of a force of United Nations Peacekeepers to the Djibouti Region, Somali Republic. This force, known as the United Nations Interim Security Force for Djibouti (UNISFD), has an authorized strength of 3,500 personnel.

Nations providing troops will be compensated at a flat monthly rate of $100 per soldier from the UN budget.

The primary mission of UNISFD is to ensure the demilitarization of the region and ensure full compliance of both the State of Ethiopia and the Somali Republic to the peace deal between them.
After the withdrawal of the State of Ethiopia from the Djibouti Region of the Somali Republic, the United Nations Security Council has authorized the creation of a new force, the United Nations Interim Security Force for Djibouti, with an authorized strength of 3,500 peacekeepers, to ensure compliance of both parties to the peace deal between them. The Secretary-General calls upon peace-loving nations everywhere with no pre-existing interests in the region to contribute forces to make the UN's promise of collective security a reality.
The Force Commander will nominally be selected by the Secretary-General, though in reality it will simply rotate between the contributing nations. The headquarters of UNISFD will be in Djibouti, Somali Republic.
