A list of puns related to "U Street Corridor"
Hi there!
I posted here a few weeks ago looking for a roommate; I'm posting one more time with the slightly different intention of looking for a room available amongst roommates already established with one another in a group house setting.
I am a 25 y/o woman moving from my hometown of Albuquerque, NM. I'll arrive in DC on Sunday, Oct. 3rd. I have a BLA from the University of New Mexico and currently work at a law firm and a classical public radio station. I've been interviewing with law firms in DC, but in the event that I have not secured a job by the time I arrive, I am willing to pay a few months' rent up front.
I've lived in Albuquerque for the majority of my life and am looking forward to living in a bigger city. Aside from my interest in law and politics, I find DC to be a beautiful and endlessly fascinating city and have been dreaming of moving there for years. I am a relatively low-key/introverted person, but I'm hoping to find a group of housemates that enjoy cooking and hanging out together at home. I am considerate and respectful, and always keep shared spaces clean and tidy. I am fully vaccinated and follow all masking/social distancing guidelines in public.
I enjoy riding my bicycle (not planning to own a vehicle in DC), playing chess, checking out local breweries and restaurants, watching tv / movies, and playing the viola. I love dogs and cats and would be delighted if there were one/some of them in the home. I will be bringing my little buds along to DC with me: five "fancy rats" who are sweet and affectionate, socialized by humans their whole lives and very different from sewer/pest rats. (I defer to r/rats if for anyone unfamiliar with rats as pets.) They are quiet, caged animals and would stay in my room, so they would be essentially unnoticeable to others in the home. They don't smell and they present no risk of damage to the property.
Please DM me if you know of a room available in early October. I'm open to living outside of the areas listed in the title. I would be happy to set up a zoom chat to "meet" the roommates and feel out if we are a good fit. Many thanks!
Hey everyone, sorry for a common-question-post, but I didn't see a casual questions thread.
I'm considering moving into an apartment on 14th and V NW. It's a great place and a great value for the central location, but I'm concerned about crime/safety of the area. DC Crime Cards has that block within the most crime-dense section of the city, which doesn't make me feel great. I've been living in Shaw on a residential street for several years, so feel fairly insulated and safe.
Thoughts? Do I have a good reason to be concerned? Thanks!
What has been going on the last 6 months in NW DC. The crime rate in Columbia Heights, U Street and other close by neighborhoods has skyrocketed.
Just yesterday a 70 year old women dog walker was almost beaten to death with pipes (see link below) at 1pm. 24 hours earlier, a women was robbed at knife point and had her leg broken (see link below that). Add to that all the gun violence in Columbia Heights and some sections on U Street.
My brother, who lives by Howard U was almost in a robbery at a liquor store after work. The cops were called. He has been living here for a while also and has never seen it this bad.
With a pregnant wife, it maybe time to go. It was never like this in the 6+ years I have lived here. What is causing it? We have many close friends within a 10 block radius and they can confirm the spike in crime in this area.

I know some will say this is a city and things like this happen, but 6+ years living here I haven't seen this. I'm talking about my specific neighborhood and surroundings.

It's called like.... something-places. It's any photo that elicits that vibe. I'm so close to thinking of what it is, but I can't quite!!!
I need to take a picture of yellow leaves.
Like new Lomo Instant camera. I will also throw in 5 unopened film packs, which would cost approximately $60 if purchased new from a retail shop.
I got this as a random gift and enjoyed it for a year. I know nothing about photography, and after messing with the settings, I managed to get it to a state where all the prints come out super dark. I am at a loss about how to reset the proper settings, but if you know the first thing about cameras you can probably return it to normal in 2 minutes.

I know Dupont and Chinatown have a couple, but I'm curious about U Street.
I know the simple answer is "Westminster Council", I just want to express frustration and start some discussion here about pedestrianising Oxford Street (and/or other areas. Regent Street? The Strand?)
I last went to Oxford Street probably a year ago, and the last time before then was probably a year or two before. I tend to avoid it because the pavements are too narrow, allowing for the road space, the busses and taxis thunder along and like most of Central London, it's highly polluted.
I remember going relatively frequently when younger, it's a shame it's not an inviting environment.
Especially now with the closure of some major retailers (Top Shop, most of the department stores circling the drain), it would be nice to make it a nice place to wander, with outdoor dining & gardens.
There are lots of other cities with similar promenades that are nice, the Zeil in Frankfurt, Buchanan St in Glasgow, George St in Sydney. I wish we had something similar.
