Since we are in theme, here's this pic: after his coronation, Nicholas II of Russia leaves Dormition Cathedral. The Chevalier Guard Lieutenant marching in front to the Tsar's right is Mannerheim, later-to-be the main national and military figure of Finland during the century.

I like to think that if Tankies existed in World War I, they would cheer Tsar Nicholas II as a bastion of anti-imperialism against German aggression, before wailing and gnashing their teeth when the March Revolution happened, and then violently opposing Lenin for being an "imperialist puppet"

I visited Yekaterinburg and Ganina Yama and learned about the execution of Tsar Nicholas II
Hi Russianhistory reddit. Me again. And thanks for supporting my last video ('Most Deaths in WW2').
In this week's 'Top 50 Things Learned in Modern Grand Tour' (50 educational segments from my educational travel vlog that focuses on history and culture), we're at No.38 and examining the brutal death of Tsar Nicholas II and the Romanov family.
And here's a timeline (not focused upon in the video), which I find interesting as it show that the October Revolution did not lead straight away to the USSR (which previously I had assumed). There was the brutal Russian Civil War to get through.
- October 1917: October Revolution (Lenin takes power) and Russian Civil War immediately begins.
- July 1918: Tsar Nicholas II and family executed, allegedly on the orders of Lenin.
- October 1922: Russian Civil War ends. Lenin's Communists win.
- December 1922: USSR officially created.
Also, at the end of the video, I touch on the complexity of Russian history. If there are any Russian people here, it would be interesting to know how you, and your friends, view today's Russian patriots of Tsar Nicholas II and Lenin given the fact that it was Lenin who supposedly ordered the murder of Tsar Nicholas. To what extent is it possible to be supportive of both men (baring in mind, of course, they are ideologically opposed and, I'm guessing, they would have hated each other).
