A list of puns related to "Triple Meaning"
So I was listening to the Centipede Hz vinyl this morning in a more conceptual light and the title strikes me as a kind of Joycean triple entendre tied into a single cohesive meaning, i.e. natural/collective/subjective history: First we have the hertz of a centipede, the electromagnetic wave frequencies of a hundred legs in motion, but hertz can also be read phonetically as βhurtsβ, as if the sounds of all those legs in motion are the different pains that make up the past and therefore the present song, sound, or state of being, natural (and fantastical), collective (mythological/historical) and individual (subjective/solipsistic) all tied into their relation with one another... As in, where we are now, and going forward, is ineluctably tied to all the βlegsβ weβve experienced prior, and everything moves on singing some way or another even after it moves no more... Reading the history of the album (Deakinβs return, the band moving back to Baltimore where it all began, the free form and low key nature of their playing together after the freak expansion of Merriweather, etc. etc.) really seems to strengthen this interpretation for me... Just curious if anybody has or has had any thoughts on this?
It took me a hot second to clear out all the YouTube videos I had backlogged, so I just listened to Taylorβs interview with Apple Music today.
Some of my favorite literary tricks that work every time on me in poetry or short fiction that Taylor is also an absolute MASTER of are starting/ending with the same line and twisting a phrase to coax two different meanings out of it.
For example, lately the bridge in Ivy absolutely murders me. Comparing the affair to βa fire, a goddamn blaze in the darkβ and then to βa war, the goddamn fight of my lifeβ and then both times she coasts over βYou started it.β And itβs so pretty and hits hard.
Anyway, I caught the double meaning in happiness but didnβt catch the TRIPLE meaning in a line until she made a comment during the interview. Going from βI havenβt met the new me yetβ, to two βYou havenβt met the new me yetβs. The first being she doesnβt know who sheβll be after reinvention, the last one being that after she becomes that person she might be able to forgive the other party. For some reason I missed that the middle one was a sly reference to βyou havenβt met the literal new me, the person who will replace me as your personβ and it killed me.
Anyway long rambling post! But I was very curious if you guys had any favorite repeated lines that had another meaning based on the surrounding lines from this or other albums. Another evermore favorite is gold rush and the switch from βI call you out on your contrarian shitβ to βwonβt call you out on your contrarian shitβ as she slowly lets go of the daydream.
I had a dream last night that I was headed home, home was down many stairs and when I finally got in a man was there, he told me he would help me save my things but we had to act fast because it was coming. There was a beautiful gazebo he tore down and stashed away while I tore down other things. Eventually the floor started swirling black and disappearing as if into a void, I knew if I stepped on it I would disappear. I called for my ferrets and all three came running-- I put them in the pile I was able to salvage. The man was no one I recognized but it was implied he was my lover, even in my dream he was a stranger to me tho I accepted out relationship. He was gaunt, wasting away, skin pulled over his bones tight and deteriorating by the moment. He told me he was dying, of course, and we talked about memories. I woke up shortly after he started talking.
Earlier I saw someone saying JCβs βI wouldβve taken Con soul on Genesisβ bar had 3 meanings and one of the meanings he listed clearly wasnβt actually intended and people had a field day in the comments
That being said, can yβall take a hot bar you heard and apply the dumbest, funniest and reachiest fake double meaning to it?
....the government really need to put out some public information ads on supermarket etiquette, because things are getting out of control out there!
Title, thanks!
Long time lurker, first time poster here, but I've noticed almost no one is talking about the "Queen" in the North, Sansa Stark.
We all know next episode will have Cersei with her gift(s) and Dany demanding Jon bend the knee, but what about Sansa? Since Jon left her in charge, she is acting Queen. What justice could she enact? Could it be towards littlefinger and all of his creepiness, or could it be against some of the northern houses that betrayed the Starks in the BotB and undo Jon's goodwill? Kit Harrington has said in interviews that he doesn't much like Sansa's character this season, and she has already gone against Jon twice thus far, so what next?
Has anyone else thought of this, or just me? I'd love to hear theories/thoughts on what she will do with her newfound power.
I've seen the first series of Twin Peaks, but then exams got in the way before I managed to see any more, but this weekend me and a friend are going to triple-bill Eraserhead, Lost Highway and Inland Empire - that's nearly 7 hours of Lynch! I think I might get some kind of brain haemorrhage by the halfway mark of Inland Empire to be honest.
Thanks for taking the time to respond.
