A list of puns related to "Town And Country Planning Act 1990"
Hi all.
I bought a flat in London last year which has a lean-to side return conservatory. Pretty standard and no issues flagged with survey or solicitors. However, after purchase, I discovered it was in fact leaking very badly during period of heavy rain.
This appears to be primarily due to inadequate guttering, because of a neighbour's extension that was built ten years after my conservatory. Instead of building a pitched roof conservatory similar to mine (which is what they received planning permission for) they have instead built a full flat roof extension which is half a metre higher! The resulting over-spill during heavy rain appears to be the cause of damage to my property.
I have reported this to the council but they have come back claiming that as it as built in 2015 it falls under the four year rule and they can't do anything. I am almost certain this isn't true and they simply haven't investigated fully.
It is my understanding the four year rule can only be used in cases where there is no planning permission at all, or with a breach of planning conditions which relates specifically to its use as a separate dwelling place. I don't believe either applies here, as they did receive planning permission and the condition they breached was "build it to the plans", which they have not done so. Although the building was indeed being split up into flats at that time, the condition they broke did not specifically relate to use as a single dwelling. So this would fall under the ten year rule, not the four.
Is the council planning department correct on this, or am I?
My mother and I were NC for 2015-2017. I moved cross country in 2018 and honestly things got a lot better between us. We talk about once a week which is all I want. Lately, she has been contacting me more often and recently sent me a screen shot of a job offer for a traveling nurse position near me. I asked if she had applied and she said something along the lines of would be nice.
Well, my sister contacted me yesterday to let me know that when she went over to their house they were looking at other jobs and even houses in my town. They told her they are thinking about moving because the traveling nurse job my mother found, applied for, and interviewed for pays VERY well. I am in shock and a deep state of denial as of right now. I told my siblings that I'm going to be straightforward if she asks me and tell her I don't think it's good for the relationship we have worked on. They know our mother and agree that would be best.
The other thing is......she's around 300-350lbs, she's been hospitalized from blood clots from 6-8 hour car rides because she used to be much larger and it has already taken its toll on her health as she is nearing 60 now. She's had a hip and knee replacement. I'm not sure what traveling nurses do, but when I see them they are usually very fit young women/men which to me implies they probably have to run around a lot at work. She hasn't been on a plane in 20+ years. They have 5 horses, 6 dogs, 2 cats, and some other farm animals that I can't imagine them just selling/giving away. We are literally diagonal opposite sides of the country, USA, and if they tried to U-Haul it, between the animals and my mothers health it would take them multiple weeks and thousands of dollars. Not to mention my entire family, generations of people, live around them and it would require them to leave everyone they know.
It's just weighing on my mind and I'm so worried about them asking me about it. I want to be strong and straightforward and tell them no, but it's hard.......I'm crying as I write this, but I'm still scared of them.....
It's so frustrating too and my partner doesn't really understand because his parents are wonderful. I wish I could have had a mother that loved me rather than the pieces of herself she thinks she sees in me.
How do I tell my parents that I don't want them to move closer to me without destroying everything we've worked on?
Did I work on this for nothing and they played me again? Are they just so ignorant that they refu

House down the road was bought by new owners and turned into a privately run children's care home for profit. Unqualified staff were hired and the children age 16-17 were an incredible nuisance for the whole street, police called multiple times a week, the children threatening neighbours with physical and verbal abuse. All round Anti social behaviour and incredibly disturbing loud noise throughout the night. 4 neighbours sold their house directly because of these new neighbours. The owners have now filed for planning permission on the house to change use class from C3 dwelling house to C2 residential institution. The owners have done this through a new blank company with the old registered company having had its name changed 5 times within 2 week which in and of itself is not illegal, however it is not a sign of a ethically well run company to change its name through 5 names and back to its original from A -> B -> C -> D ->E -> A. Suspicious is definitely a word I'd use.
I would like help with building a case for objecting this application, through my local council. What are the reasons that can be cited as a basis for rejecting this proposal, such as the past actions of the company not providing the correct care or staff for the children, as well as the 'children' themselves engaging in violent, threatening behaviour towards others.
Any help is much appreciated
I'm from Indonesia, just graduated (officially) and I'm looking around for universities offering good urban-regional planning programs, preferably those that conduct third-world country focused research relating to sustainable development, community capacity development and so on as that would make it much easier to find scholarships. My current work (which I have been doing since the start of this year and basically is a continuation of my undegraduates' thesis) is focuses more on rural land use planning as opposed to urban planning, by the way. Can anyone give me a recommendation of a good place where I can study both urban and regional planning in the same masters degree?
I was thinking of University of Twente, but started thinking again as they separate urban planning from rural/regional planning.
Oh and by the way, in Indonesia at least, planning isn't strictly urban in nature; rural districts also do land use planning including the regulation of what could be farmed and what couldn't be farmed, down to its implementation. Actually, pre-COVID, most consulting gigs were very much rural in nature as most rural planning departments here lack the institutional capacity to perform any sort of independent planmaking. Thereby its very important for me to study and have some sort of competence in both urban planning and regional/rural planning.
