I'm a 21F with an impacted wisdom tooth that I suspect is infected. How long would it take for it to progress to a more serious infection (sepsis)? My anxiety is really messing with me thinking that I could die of sepsis at any hour :((
These are my symptoms so far. My symptoms started 5 days ago, had some pain in the area where I know my impacted wisdom tooth is. Starting 2 days ago, I noticed a soft bump/bubble form next to that area that has popped a few times, resulting in a really gross, salty taste in my mouth. The lymph node on that side of my neck is also swollen and painful. Just today, I think I have developed a low grade fever.
Some things that have helped are gargling salt water and painkillers, but the pain isn't unbearable, and I can still open my mouth perfectly fine, no swelling.
I have an appointment in 3 days for a consultation with my oral surgeon since I had been planning on getting my wisdom teeth out prior to symptoms starting, but I fear with hearing stories of how tooth infections can progress into dangerous life threatening infections, that it might take too long.
What should I do? I am getting so paranoid that I am considering calling for a same day appointment with my dentist tomorrow morning when their office opens.
Hey all,
I really appreciate this community as itβs been a place Iβve gotten a lot of information, and itβs comforting to know there are other people out there going through the same thing. I developed chronic tinnitus in my left ear sometime in late January, and it hasnβt subsided for even one second since. The first month or so was really rough, couldnβt enjoy anything like my favorite TV shows or video games, and overall was just really depressed. Itβs gotten a bit more manageable since and Iβve started to live a more normal life, but it is still always there (especially if I think about it).
So like I said, my tinnitus is only in my left ear. I went to an ENT to get my hearing checked and he said everything is perfectly fine, that my hearing is exactly where it should be for my age and I have no hearing loss. My only thought of what the cause could have been is that I had a filling crack one day in early January, and it caused quite a bit of pain. The tooth that hurt was in my upper left side, which is next to the ear that developed the ringing. I went to the dentist to get it fixed, but a couple weeks later it still hurt and it felt like my bite was off. I also chewed only with my right side for about a month. Well Iβve been back to the same dentist 3 times to get the filling fixed as every time about a week later I notice Iβm still in pain in that area when chewing or clenching my teeth. Iβve set up a fourth appointment as it still causes mild pain and hot/cold sensitivity (though not as bad as it was) and honestly Iβm just wondering if all of this could be the cause. What makes me believe it has to be related is that my tinnitus developed literally a week or so after my filling was fixed, and that seems like too much of a coincidence. I asked my dentist during the first appointment if my tooth could be related to my new found tinnitus and he played it off like there was no possible chance they are related. Also my left ear itches inside a lot and I find myself digging in with my pinky finger to alleviate it. However when I went to the ENT they said there was no wax blockage or anything wrong. I also hear a crackling in my left ear a lot of times when swallowing.
Sorry for the rambling, I guess I just wanted to hear everyoneβs opinion on whether or not that could be the cause as I really want to find answers.
TLDR: Had a tooth filling crack and a dentist worked on it, but my bite felt off after and it hurt when I would clench my teeth. Tooth

>A previous study reported that scabronine G methyl ester (SG-ME) potentially enhances the in vitro secretion of neurotrophic factors such as nerve growth factor via the protein kinase C (PKC)-ΞΆ pathway. However, it remains unknown whether SG-ME can improve cognitive dysfunctions in olfactory bulbectomized (OBX) mice. To address this question, we evaluated SG-ME-treated and untreated OBX mice in a passive avoidance test. We also investigated potential effects of SG-ME on several parameters: cell proliferation and cAMP response element-binding protein (CREB) phosphorylation in the hippocampal dentate gyrus by immunohistochemistry, brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) levels in the hippocampus by Western blotting, p-CREB levels in the hippocampus by MapAnalyzer, and long-term potentiation (LTP) by electrophysiology. On the 14th day after surgery OBX mice showed altered passive avoidance and decreases in both cell proliferation and long-term potentiation in the hippocampus, while these changes were reversed by SG-ME (20 ΞΌg/mouse) 24 h after the treatment. The improvement in memory deficits was prevented when SG-ME was co-administeredwith either zeta inhibitory peptide (PKC-ΞΆ inhibitor), anti-BDNF antibody, ANA-12 (TrkB antagonist), U0126 (MEK inhibitor), H-89 (PKA inhibitor), LY294002 (PI3K inhibitor) or KN-93 (CaMKII inhibitor). We found that SG-ME enhanced brain-derived neurotrophic factor and p-CREB levels in the hippocampus while p-CREB was localized in neurons, but not in astrocytes nor microglial cells. These findings revealed the potential of SG-ME in improving memory impairments by enhancing cell proliferation and LTP via activation of the BDNF/CREB signaling pathway in neurons.
Depression is hard. It's soul crushing, debilitating, and it steals the best of us. If you take anything away from my post today, please try to look after your teeth.
When I was at my most depressed, everything hygiene wise went out the window. I didn't brush my teeth or see a dentist for about 10 years- apart from the occasional mouthwash or chewing gum when my breath got too bad, I had no toothbrush and no floss. It just seemed too big of a hurdle at the end of my day when I just wanted to go to bed.
After a while when I was getting out of my depression a little both with therapy I thought about going to see a dentist as I had really, really sensitive teeth, but before I even could get an appointment I got a small cavity. Small peak of anxiety but it wasn't painful, so I ignored it. I eventually got booked in 9 months after the cavity appeared. They cleaned my teeth first to see what they were dealing with and not only did the tooth with the cavity fall apart, but I had 6 other teeth that needed filling. I had a panic attack in the chair, and spiraled so far back into the depths that I couldn't even see the light.
Please try to take care of your teeth.
I have the shield and I am hearing impaired so I use bluetooth headphones with it. Randomly, a few times a week actually when I go to use my shield the system will lock up, and then after about a minute re-boot. This started when I paired a new set of headphones to the device (Sony WH-CH700N). It never has the problem if I do not turn on the headphones. So it seems to be bluetooth related.
It happens in all streaming apps, like youtube, netflix and even twitch.
Is this a firmware issue (I am up to date on my updates) or is my box getting ready to die?
Thanks,
-F
Whenever I chew on my left side, i feel a general soreness and annoying level 4 pain around a specific molar area. I previously had a root canal+crown on the neighboring molar so I thought it might be another dead nerve. But x-rays revealed nothing out of ordinary...
They said it could be a sinus related issue, so I bought some sinus soreness relief over the counter. I think it might be helping, its hard to tell... Anyone have any experience with something like this? looking for a a long term solution.
Sometimes it's even sensitive to neutral things like water. Maybe its a gum or nerve issue? Thanks.
It seems like itβs the closest tooth to the sinus area on that side. The tooth pain is gone for now; still setting aside money for the root canal. But itβs been many weeks now and the sinus thing hasnβt abated and didnβt seem to respond to medication.
