A list of puns related to "Tommy Boy Records"
Seriously, I was watching it not too long ago and although it has a reputation for being a silly slapstick movie but it has some real heart to it. Tommy Callahan has a classic heroes journey from drunk n'er do well to the man his father wants him to be. I am not ashamed to say I shed a tear at the end when the guys realize that Tommy just sold a half a million brake pads.
Its a throwback to America pre 9/11 when there were still some semblance of factory work left. A guy could graduate hs with a 2.0 or shit get a GED and find a job at a factory making the equivalent of 40 an hour, cant do that anymore. If you never saw this movie do yourself a favor and watch it. It has amazing performances by David Spade and the incomparable Chris Farley. It is a goddamn shame that hooker didnt get him any freakin help because he was planning on transitioning into dramatic acting and I think he could have easily done it.
Tommy makes it a point in his introductions (including at E3) to mention his Guinness World Records.
Aside from the fact that four of the five records he cites all relate to his Video Game Live concerts including the same one twice as a "recertification," these are all records in non-existent hyper specialized categories that he would've personally solicited and paid for to obtain. There was no precedent for "video game concert" records nor "most prolific video game soundtrack composers" until contrived for Tommy.
Guinness Records are a novelty gimmick to raise money for Guinness as a for profit company. People pay anywhere from $800 to $500,000 to "earn" Guinness records. An excerpt from Wiki:
> According to a 2017 story by Planet Money of NPR, Guinness began to realize that a lucrative new revenue source to replace falling book sales was the would-be record-holders themselves. While any person can theoretically send in a record to be verified for free, the approval process is slow. Would-be record breakers that paid fees ranging from US$12,000 to US$500,000 would be given advisors, adjudicators, help in finding good records to break as well as suggestions for how to do it, prompt service, and so on. In particular, corporations and celebrities seeking a publicity stunt to launch a new product or draw attention to themselves began to hire Guinness World Records, paying them for finding a record to break or to create a new category just for them.
And sure enough, Tommy had an adjudicator attend his VGL concert to obtain two new awards relating to that, in categories that no other person ever claimed record-holder of previously.
> Guinness World Records adjudicator Pravin Patel also gave Tallarico a certificate for the title Largest audience for a live videogame music concert.
His newfound record breaking for Guinness coincided in 2008 with their launch of the Gaming edition, in fact they even name him as "special thanks" in the end credits in their gaming editions for helping assemble it.
#Unvetted and Vague Records
The actual records are suspect as well, in that I have reason to believe Guinness does minimal vetting before putting them in writing if the money is right. For the "most prolific composer of video game soundtracks" they only generically claim in the certificate and
... keep reading on reddit β‘That scene was random and weird, and not really fitting with the tone of the movie. Then it occurred to me that Richard was this prissy, effeminate little man who didn't have a wife or a girlfriend and the little interest he showed in women throughout the rest of the movie could be written off as performative. This was the 90's so the producers were probably worries about that perception and the response was to throw in this scene where Richard is watching a random woman swimming naked in an outdoor hotel pool and randomly decides to start jackin' it right then and there. Now they can say "See? He's totally into chicks."
Trembleβs 7-yard touchdown run against Houston actually set an NFL record, making him, at 21, the youngest tight end to run for a touchdown. The previous record was held by future Hall of FamerΒ Rob Gronkowski.
What is your guyβs opinion on the 1995 comedy βTommy Boyβ? This is my personal favorite movie and it has been since I first saw it. I am a huge fan of Chris Farley and I believe that this movie shows Chris at his best. Not to mention David Spade and Dan Aykroyd also putting on an amazing performance. Iβve seen this move more times that I can even count and it still manages to make me laugh. I just wanna hear what you guys think of this movie because I personally love it
