So, as everyone seems to have noticed, the Big Top Extravaganza, despite being touted as something you don't want to miss, could use a little more oomph. There's a lot of good resources on DM's Guild which I plan on using to fill it out, but here's one more character I'm adding that I thought I could share. I'm very happy to take feedback or would love to hear how he works in your game.
On the way to the Big Top Extravaganza, or perhaps one ride before, the players encounter Tintagel the Magnificent, a magician getting his first big break.
>As you walk down the promenade, you are hit with a sudden impact. A frantic young elven man in an ill fitting earth toned suit stares at you in terror. > > βIβm so sorry I didnβt mean to hit you! Iβm just out so nervous. Itβs my first day getting a performance slot on the on stage for the Big Top Extravaganza and they put me going on after Candlefoot. Why after Candlefoot? Weβre the same kind of act and heβs so good! He headlines things!β
Tintagelβs list of anxieties continue, and he will list them to the players at length given half the opportunity.
If the players comfort Tintagel he asks for reassurances that they will clap no matter what, or volunteer if no one else does.
Regardless of if they promise, a DC12 Persuasion check will calm Tintagel somewhat. Tintagel will thank anyone who comforted him and find the strength to leave for the dressing room.
Later, at the Big Top Extravaganza, ideally after Candlefoot performs, as promised, Mr. Light announces, βIn his mainstage debut, Tintagel the Magnificent!β
>Tintagelβs brow shines with sweat under the Big Top lights, but he performs a few tricks competently, rabbits out of hats, endless handkerchiefs, that kind of thing. He doesnβt have the same flair for showmanship as Candlefoot, but that comes from years of experience. Heβs not embarrassing himself, and thatβs enough. He seems pleased, but then turns scared again.
