At 8PM the match will start and will be cast on either mine or Husky's channel (he hasn't responded to my email so I don't really know yet).
I've been wondering if anyone else remembers Thrilla. He was the star of one of my top 5 favorite NES games when I was a kid. I loved Thrilla's Safari as a kid and as an adult I enjoy how over the top "awesome" they tried to make it. I mean he's a surfboarding/skateboarding Gorilla! He's on a mission to save his human girlfriend, a quite quite sexy blond beach bombshell by the name of Barbie Bikini. An evil tiki guy kidnapped her for nefarious purposes, which I still don't entirely understand and I've beaten the game several times. He airdrops into "somewhere in Africa" at a height so high you can see the entire continent of Africa! He'd have to be in space right!? Red Bull needs a new mascot.
You probably have some questions. I have some answers, not a lot, but some. First off, why is the official title Town & Country 2: Thrilla's Safari and not just Thrilla's Safari? Well this requires finding out what Town & Country is, and what it is is a surfing equipment and apparel store. Ok, so why would a surfing store have a video game? Well it turns out T&C had a successful clothing line with random characters they had made including a guy with a tiki mask, a caveman with a stone surfboard, some cats wearing suits, and especially Thrilla Gorilla. This group was called "da boys" and you can see them in many images online.
LJN for some reason, I honestly have no idea why other than the fact they were known to license tons of properties for video games, licensed "da boys" from T&C so they could make a skateboarding/surfing game. This was Town & Country Surf Designs: Wood & Water Rage. This game came out in 1988, and was a skateboarding and surfing game, more like an obstacle course game like excite bike. I'm not sure how successful it was, I personally didn't have a copy. But success or not, a sequel was eventually released in 1992, T&C II: Thrilla's Safari. In this one, only Thrilla is a playable character where in the first one a few other of "da boys" were playable. A few of "da boys" do show up in cut scenes throughout Thrilla's Safari.
Thrilla's Safari deviated from Wood & Water Rage by becoming what I would consider a full on Platformer type game. There are levels in the jungle, desert, rivers, and even under water.
