After getting a call from the Mainland, Sir Topham drives slowly to Tidmouth sheds to alert the other engines about the news. For now, the engines are being held up in the sheds until he arrives.
Gordon: This is unacceptable! I will be late for the express! What will my passengers think, me being THIS late.
Edward: Calm down Gordon, I'm sure Sir Topham has a good reason for this.
James: He better. It is such a lovely day and I want everyone to see my shiny red paintwork.
Henry: Oh.. I hope it isn't anything bad. Do you think anyone has had an accident? I sure hope not.
Edward: Oh Henry, I'm sure it's all fine, lets just wait and see.
Just then Sir Topham's car pulls up, and out steps a pale to the face Topham. He walks over to the engines with a sad face.
Gordon: AH! Sir Topham Hatt! What is going on! I will be late for the express if I shall not hurry up! What will the people think about your railway. They will think it is ver-
Gordon stops as he watches Sir Topham take off his hat and lower it down to his chest. He takes a deep breath and looks up at the other engines.
Topham: I have just gotten a call from the Mainland. The boat arrived fine, but...
Sir Topham stutters and looks back down.
Edward: Sir? What happened?
Topham: Only two engines arrived. Salty, and Percy.
Henry: I.... Where is he Sir....?
Sir Topham looks up at Henry with weary eyes.
Topham: I went to the Docks to see if he had arrived late, but he wasn't there. It turned out that he arrived earlier than everyone else, and was...
There was a pause before he continued.
Topham: He was loaded onto a different ship. I'm so sorry everyone.
Sir Topham sat down on a coal bunker, and stared off at all of his engines.
Edward: So where is he? What ship was he loaded onto?
Sir Topham gazed at Edward, then fiddled with his hat.
Topham: I-.... I don't know Edward... The ship wasn't even supposed to be there. It was parked there on accident.
James: So that means that....
Gordon: That Thomas is...
Topham: Yes....Thomas is lost...
Topham gets up, and walks back over to his car. As he leaves the engines all sit in silence, hoping that their number one tank engine is doing alright.
I'm kinda think that BWBA's "Where in the world is Thomas" could be rewritten to be much more sadder for after this scene, and instead of them saying references they talk about what could have really happened to him.
My whole life Iβve been a Thomas the Tank engine fan. Even as I got older I still loved watching the episodes and playing with my engines. People at school and my family always made fun of me for being Thomas' fan at 12 years old, but I didnβt care. I loved Thomas the Tank Engine.
My father hated that I still loved Thomas, he always told me to grow up and quit being a baby. He tried getting me into sports like basketball or football, but I didnβt care for them. All I cared about was watching Thomas and playing with all my toy engines. My mom was the only one who supported my love for Thomas, she always would get me new toy engines on my birthday and she would always buy me new episodes when I ran out.
My parents would always fight about my obsession for Thomas, I would hear them outside my room at night arguing.
βDamnit Jess he is almost 13 years old, he needs to grow up!β my father said.
βStop it Dave, he loves a kids show so what? Instead of making fun of him and bullying him you should support him and love him.β my mother said.
They argued a lot back then, everytime they argued I would cry, knowing their problems were caused by me. I tried to get into other things, my parents bought me a playstation that I tried playing. I tried playing Fornite, Call of Duty, and Halo but I just didnβt enjoy playing them. All I ever truly enjoyed were my Thomas episodes and my toy trains, nothing else.
One day when I got back from school, I decided to watch an episode. I went into my closet where I kept all the DVDs of Thomas.
As I looked around for a new episode to watch, something caught my eye. It was an old VHS tape tucked away in the back of the closet. I reached over and grabbed it, staring at the title scribbled on a piece of tape that read, βSir Topham Hattβs day off.β
βThatβs strange,β I say aloud to no one.
I looked around at the rest of the closet which was full of DVDs, but no VHS tapes. I didnβt have a VHS player in the living room, but I knew my parents had one in their room. I headed upstairs where I am greeted by my father at the top.
βWhat have you got there son?β he asked, pointing to the tape.
βOh just an old movie.β I lie.
He snatched the tape before I could react. He looked at it slowly, then asked
βIs this a Thomas episode?β
βYes,β I said, knowing I couldnβt lie.
My father stared at me hard and long, he looked in a way a father looks at his son who failed a test, or the way a father disapproves of something. He han
