A list of puns related to "Theo Van Gogh"
(note: absolutely no flair fits, but this is the closest. So sorry)
The Van Gogh Brothers & the Painting:
Vincent van Gogh was the oldest son (barring one who died in infancy), but it was Theo who was considered the βman of the family.β After their fatherβs early death, it was Theoβa respected art dealer who exhibited the likes of Monet, Cezanne, and Gauginβthat held the family together. Theo supported the troubled, transient Vincent for most of his adult life, giving him money and almost unconditional support. From 1886 to 1888βwhen Vincent made his fateful move to Arlesβthe two lived together in Paris, during which time Vincent painted prolifically. Soon, both brothers were dead, tragically young, Vincent from suspected suicide and Theo likely from complications of syphilis.
But among these Paris paintings were two portraits, both from some time in 1887. Because of their similar size and style, most assume they are a pair. And most assume the two men are Vincent and Theo van Gogh. It is reasonable to think, as many have, that the one in the straw hat is Vincent and the one in the felt hat is Theo; it would match their professions and the known dress of Vincent. Really, there should be no question as to who the portraits represent. But there is.
Basic Appearance:
Vincent and Theo were, obviously, brothers. By all accounts they were strikingly similar in appearance, differentiated mostly by their dress and manners. But there were differences:
Vincent: Vincent was careless with his personal appearance, bathing rarely and often wearing little more than rags, a constant source of embarrassment to his buttoned-down family. By his 20s, his teeth were rotten and falling out, and he had had most removed. But other than a few scattered descriptions of Vincent as βuglyβ or βvery uglyββand one picture from when he was 19 (Vincent was a notorious hater of photographs, which he described as βfrightfulβ)βmost of what we know about his appearance comes from his numerous self portraits. Here, heβs usually shown with a thin face, long nose, light bluish or greenish eyes, and his signature reddish hair and beard. (note: I will add that another photograph may exist, but that it is highly disputed).
Theo: Theo was slighter than his brother (though likely around the same height), with thin features thinned further from illness, pale reddish hair, and light

Sometimes I like to feel sorry for myself as an artist.
I've become so obsessed with Van Gogh. I've read all the letters between him and Theo.
Thinking about him really puts things into perspective for me. He kept working dispite not receiving an ounce of recognition.
It takes a true artist to work on a peice to those extremes and not expect a single person to see it. To be so obsorbed in your vision that its all you see.
He wasn't the social type, so he didn't fit into the artist circles. I bet if he posted a pic of his art on reddit today he still wouldn't get the recognition
In this post I want to look back to the murder of van Gogh and Islam extremism in the Netherlands 10 years ago and now a days.
The murder of Theo van Gogh
[a summary I took form wikipedia]
Van Gogh was murdered by Mohammed Bouyeri while cycling to work on 2 November 2004 at about 9 o'clock in the morning, in front of the Amsterdam East borough office (stadsdeelkantoor), on the corner of the Linnaeusstraat and Tweede Oosterparkstraat The killer shot Van Gogh eight times with an HS2000 handgun. Bouyeri was also on a bicycle and fired several bullets, hitting Van Gogh and two bystanders. Wounded, Van Gogh ran to the other side of the road and fell to the ground on the cycle lane. According to eyewitnesses, Van Gogh's last words were "Don't do it, don't do it." or "Have mercy, have mercy, don't do it, don't do it. Canβt we just talk about it?" Bouyeri walked up to Van Gogh, who was on the ground, and calmly shot him several more times at close range. Bouyeri cut Van Goghβs throat with a large knife and tried to decapitate him, after which he stabbed the knife deep into Van Gogh's chest, reaching his spinal cord. He attached a note to the body with a smaller knife. Van Gogh died on the spot. The two knives were left implanted. The note was addressed to and contained a death threat to Ayaan Hirsi Ali, who went into hiding. It also threatened Western countries and Jews, and referred to ideologies of the Egyptian organization Takfir wal-Hijra
The killer, Mohammed Bouyeri, a 26-year-old Dutch-Moroccan citizen, was apprehended by police after a chase, during which he was shot in the leg. Authorities have alleged that Bouyeri has terrorist ties with the Dutch Islamist Hofstad Network. He was charged with the attempted murder of several police officers and bystanders, illegal possession of a firearm, and conspiring to murder others, including Hirsi Ali. He was convicted at trial on 26 July 2005 and sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole. The murder sparked a violent storm of outrage and grief throughout the Netherlands. Flowers, notes, drawings and other expressions of mourning were left at the scene of the murder.
Aftermath
The day after the murder, Dutch police arrested eight Muslims allegedly belonging to a group later referred to as the Hofstad Network. Six detainees were Dutch-Moroccans, one was Dutch-Algerian, and one had dual Spanish-Moroccan nationality. The Dutch Complaints Bureau for Discrimination on the Internet (MDI) received
