I am the Queen of Thebes in Ancient Greece. My husband just died and the kingdom has no ruler since I have no son, only a young daughter. What happens now? Am I forced to remarry because I am not allowed as a woman to rule on my own? What is the standard procedure?
I am writing a fantasy book about a greedy queen that murders her husband in order to rule without him and I am trying to find a way for her to stand on her own despite the limited rights her gender offers.
Thank you to anyone that helps in my quest!

Many stories from Ancient Greece feature units of 300 soldiers (Thermopylae, Battle of the Champions, Sacred Band of Thebes) is there any significance behind this number? Or is it just coincidence?

How did ancient Thebes(Greece) impact the world? Were they influential in making Greece the way it is today? How did they compare to other city-states?
All Iโve really studied about Ancient Greece is Sparta and Athens, but I am wondering about other powerful city-states. I know Thebes had a decent military, and they helped fight the Persians. Can anyone tell me more about Ancient Thebes?

Why are the different city-states of ancient Greece (Sparta, Athens, Corinth, Thebes) considered to be all one country, even though they often fought wars between themselves, had different cultures, and had different governments?
Just something that's been bugging me. I understand that they fought wars together and hosted the Olympics together (as an example of inter-culture), but how does that make them anything more than just really good allies?

Greek Historians: How were women in Thebes treated? [Ancient Greece]
Historians,
After reading Antigone I was deeply interested in the role that Antigone and Ismene in their societies. Later in the work Antigone seems to usurp Creon in his decision making process. Is a women taking a superior role to a man something that would be atypical for the time? Or were women viewed more as equals?
