On this fourth anniversary of the passing of David Bowie, we present to you ZIGGY STARDUST AND THE SPIDERS FROM MARS, the 1979 documentary and concert film by D. A. Pennebaker. The documentary follows David Bowie and his backing group The Spiders from Mars performing at the Hammersmith Odeon in London on 3 July 1973. At this show, Bowie made the sudden surprise announcement that the show would be "the last show that we'll ever do," later understood to mean that he was retiring his Ziggy Stardust persona. While the film has been criticized for its technical elements, it has been praised for capturing one of the final moments of the Ziggy persona.

Context: this story starts around 12 years ago so NAW, and my ex-fiancรฉ (M) will get the name Turtle.
I met Turtle on the first day of University. I was hopelessly sheltered and he was handsome and charming. We clicked and pursued each other...well, I did. He was grooming me from the start. As I said, I was very sheltered and thought this was edgy and cool and how relationships worked. Year 2, he gets worse. He gets the idea he needs a third person in our relationship. This is all he talks about. Iโm coerced into doing cam shows and sleeping with people I really really donโt want to in front of him as an โaudition processโ for the new partner. I only regained memories of all of this about 18 months ago. I was so in the fog at this point I was like THIS IS FINE YES.
Year 3, he gets into WoW and ignores me aside for sex for like 12 hours a day. Heโs rich and Iโm paying for everything. Iโm getting really good at covering bruises with makeup. He gets his guild, who worship him, to troll me online for fun. I point out he was very popular and delightful in public.
It comes to a head when he said I had to dump him so he could pursue his dreams and not be seen as the injured party. So I did.
THEN SHIT HIT THE FAN.
He wrote a blog about how I abused HIM. And shared it with my friends. I lost my whole support network overnight. He stole a lot of money from my account as I โowed himโ and so couldnโt leave the house we rented together. Standard campaign of harassment on Fb. Then he stole the furniture so Iโm on a sleeping bag on the floor. I block him out my life, social media, ignore him, time it so I donโt see him, try and cope.

It's because he's using mostly the same backing band he uses on Low and the trilogy, and I thought this is super cool. Some very weird guitars and synths in the songs too, and Bowie's more mature vocal. Really cool stuff.

She was one of Duterte's prized champions, representing the very best of the overseas migrant community, highly educated, vocal, zealous, a transgender activist, to boot. A very rare breed of an intellectual. It seemed she could single-handedly shut down the human rights champions on the other side of the political divide, such as Chito Gascon and Dean Tony La Viรฑa, with their equally impressive curriculum vitae. For who can question the value of her credentials as "docent" of Leiden University of the Netherlands, with an MA in International Relations, minor in International Development, magna cum laude, among other distinctions. She was also lauded as the 'first Filipino" given the honor of speaking before the United Nations in support of transgender rights. No wonder she was welcomed with open arms by the Duterte administration as a propagandist with a messianic appeal, inaugurating a blog "For the Motherland" that quickly gained millions of avid followers.
What we didn't know is that she was really a wandering, penniless mendicant desperate for a job, who worked as a prostitute in the streets of Europe, offering anal sex, blow job, hand job - by her own graphic admission later. How he tricked his way into the upper rungs of the Duterte administration, getting a cushy job in the PCOO, right up there with Mocha Uson, pushing the government line on EJK and stealing the thunder from us human rights advocates who could not match his gall in claiming the moral high ground. She even had the gumption of lecturing a BBC journalist during the APEC Summit in front of the cameras, wagging his finger at the Englishman's face, with an imperious air.
Somewhere in her meteoric rise her bubble burst. She got into a quarrel with Mocha Uson and Lorraine Badoy. She fell from grace. And all those glittering credentials that eased her way to power counted for nothing, overshadowed by the dark side of her double life as a sex worker.
And then came the Global Magnitsky Act. She was staring at the prospect of not being able to go back to Europe, of jeopardizing her pending application for Dutch citizenship. She realized that life in the Netherlands was less sordid than life as a political prostitute in the Duterte regime.
And so, she stopped her blogging to save her career in Europe, but that might not be enough unfortunately. Better for her to start polishing her credentials to be able to land another job in Manila, not as a international law docent but as a hooker.
