A list of puns related to "The Penguin Guide To Blues Recordings"
It's Christmas and time to open presents! I thought there could be a post where the community works as a team to record what is in each present, and I hope this guides all of us on what presents to build today.
Easy format: I have created separate comments for small, large, giant, and masterful presents. If you want to participate please reply what you got in the presents (optimally all the possible choices if any). I will update the thread during the day if there is a constant pattern so there's not too much spam.
Happy holidays and hope everyone pulls spectacular stuff!
About 8 months ago they disappeared. They use to make really good benchmark comparison videos, but now they're just gone. Anyone know where they went?
I know most of y'all want location guides without the fluff so I tried to see if I could make one that covers the available penguin collectibles in under a minute. It's ugly but I did it, I guess. My angus is peppered.

So I thought I'd put together this guide for listeners new to the bootleg catalogue of GYBE, and also just as a guide to how live versions differ from their studio counterparts. GYBE's live archive features many alternate / longer original versions of songs. Feel free to correct any info I may have wrong and also share your own favorite recordings if you think I missed any! Most of my picks for favorite versions are just based on quality and performance and my own opinions.
Starting in album tracklist order:
----------
The Dead Flag Blues - Never recorded to have been played alongside the narration, always heavier instrumentation w/ drums added and new melodic riffs. Was played frequently from '97 to '99, once in '01 and twice in 2010. As it stands, it seems this one has been retired from setlists all together and unlikely to return. FAVORITE VERSION: 1998-12-17, 2010-12-05

The Cowboy - Never saw too big of a change except for some 2002 recordings featuring a longer outro part. Always played alongside Slow Moving Trains. Played a handful of times in '97/'98, a few dates in '02, then frequently for the 2010-11 reunion shows, and a few times again it was tried out w/ Tim on drums in 2013 so its not to say its never possible to hear live again but not likely. FAVORITE VERSION: 2002-04-03 for its outro section

DFB Outro - Older recordings more akin to the album version, but many later versions are much slower and more drawn out. The famous L'Olympic show features DFB Outro that was included on a compilation of music "Songs of the Silent Land". This track seems to have been retired for good at this point, not having been played since '03. FAVORITE VERSION: 2003-05-14 L'Olympic without a doubt

The Sad Mafioso - This one has been a staple for pretty much the bands' whole career. It's another one that structurally is no different than the album version, just more drawn out. Usually played as the closer and followed by an outro drone. Never played alongside "Nothings Alrite in Our Lives" or "Black Helicopter/Drugs in Tokyo". FAVORITE VERSIO
... keep reading on reddit β‘I have written lyrics and chords for all six songs (sans Ballad of the Grinning Fool), but I've only recorded three so far. My country is also facing the pandemic, but I am still required to go to work and continue life as if everything is normal, so the songs are steadily being recorded. Here is the link to Blow Fire Down the Coast, and on the account you can also find Hush! Onward Come the Dragons and Let The Sword Grow Rust so far.
Please forgive my poor singing/playing. The ones that are sung well are sung by my lovely coworker.
