A list of puns related to "The Hollow Men"
I
We are the hollow men
We are the stuffed men
Leaning together
Headpiece filled with straw. Alas!
Our dried voices, when
We whisper together
Are quiet and meaningless
As wind in dry grass
Or rats' feet over broken glass
In our dry cellar
Shape without form, shade without colour,
Paralysed force, gesture without motion;
Those who have crossed
With direct eyes, to death's other Kingdom
Remember us -- if at all -- not as lost
Violent souls, but only
As the hollow men
The stuffed men.
II
Eyes I dare not meet in dreams
In death's dream kingdom
These do not appear:
There, the eyes are
Sunlight on a broken column
There, is a tree swinging
And voices are
In the wind's singing
More distant and more solemn
Than a fading star.
Let me be no nearer
In death's dream kingdom
Let me also wear
Such deliberate disguises
Rat's coat, crowskin, crossed staves
In a field
Behaving as the wind behaves
No nearer --
Not that final meeting
In the twilight kingdom
III
This is the dead land
This is cactus land
Here the stone images
Are raised, here they receive
The supplication of a dead man's hand
Under the twinkle of a fading star.
Is it like this
In death's other kingdom
Waking alone
At the hour when we are
Trembling with tenderness
Lips that would kiss
Form prayers to broken stone.
IV
The eyes are not here
There are no eyes here
In this valley of dying stars
In this hollow valley
This broken jaw of our lost kingdoms
In this last of meeting places
We grope together
And avoid speech
Gathered on this beach of the tumid river
Sightless, unless
The eyes reappear
As the perpetual star
Multifoliate rose
Of death's twilight kingdom
The hope only
Of empty men.

Letβs agree to trade intellectual and emotional freedom for the prospect of economic and social security.
Letβs come to a place where men are profoundly afficted by their ineffectual will. Men whose masculinity is expressed in a virtual realm, men who are not even capable of looking me in the eyes. In college we see the making of the future leaders and decision makers of the state and yet many seem critically unfit for any task requiring strength of will. But it is not your fault that you have repressed your inner desire for chaos and destruction. It is precisely for this reason you are deemed a better fit to βsocietyβ than a man whose will and determination knows no boundary.
And Women, whose divine beauty intelligence and intuition is crushed by the intense pressure to βbe a feministβ and radicalize themselves. Ladies, you are valuable beyond belief and you are as beautiful as you allow yourself to be. Allow not for peer pressure, college and media mislead you to a sense of self which is not of your own doing. Instead use your own will to decide what is right for you. The subjugation of the self necessarily comes from within.
There is nothing wrong with social institutions which promote tolerance and liberty but it is of utmost importance to retain the natural qualities which make us human. Qualities which are essential to our mental and physical freedom, as well as to our happiness.
Feel free to discuss and to try to tear this apart if you think it deserves it.
Thanks.
ok so basically
My English teacher brought up this poem
https://msu.edu/~jungahre/transmedia/the-hollow-men.html
-or google "The Hollow Men" if you don't want to click that
And it's famous for that one quote that y'all've probably seen playing Cards Against Humanity that goes like
"This is how the world ends
This is how the world ends
Not with a bang but with a whimper."
There's a bunch of things that are described that are similar to important things in the game, such as
-Hollow men, with a headpiece filled with straw (Vessels stuffed with shades and sometimes the infection)
-Talk about "Death's dream kingdom," or Radiance and her dreams
-That quote about the world going out with a whimper could also describe Hallownest
-"The Hollow Men" and "The Hollow Knight" are prettyyy similar titles
I'm gonna look into this more, but I just had this breakthrough and needed to share my thoughts before I forgot.

I know SO women who like it, but I think men with hollow cheeks (more often than not) look like heroine addicts and borderline deformed. I seriously don't get it. It kind of reminds me of that "handsome Squidward" face β just very odd.
I already have the Live at Moles Club E.P., but I'd love to get a copy of any other live recordings. P.M. me or leave a comment if you have anything to share - thanks to anyone who might be able to help!
I loved Hollow Knight, itβs my favorite game, especially for the cute and dark fairytaleish artstyle, the super clean, layered 2D graphics and the sense of wonder I felt while exploring the map. The challenge also definitely added to that experience.
On the other hand I didnβt enjoy Ori at all. I didnβt like the 2,5D Artstyle, it also was way too full of VFX and seemed like it couldnβt decide if it wanted to be cartoonish or not. I did not enjoy the combat and platforming by any means and, well, me enjoying neither the gameplay not the graphics really hindered me from enjoying the exploration as well.
Do you have any game to recommend to me if I absolutely adore Hollow Knight but dislike Ori?
Oh and before somebody recommends them, I have played the Dark Souls trilogy and Cuphead and I enjoyed those games very much.
I'm a big fan of metroidvanias. I tried Hollow Knight back when it first came out and I hated it. But it comes up so often that I finally decided to go back and play through it.
Here's my problem. For me, a metroidvania is all about the exploration, and filling in that map. And Hollow Knight's map system is utterly abysmal.
You start off with no map at all, which just boggles my mind. You need to unlock it. And even then, you need to unlock it for each region, so every time you go to a new region once more you find yourself with no map.
On top of that, once you do have the map, it doesn't automatically update as you explore. You need to buy an upgrade for that, as well. And even then, it only updates once you go back to a save point.
And if you, for some silly reason, wanted to know where you are on the map, guess what, that's an upgrade, too! But this isn't just an upgrade you buy and you're done with, no no no. This is an upgrade that you need to spend one of your few, precious charm slots on.
And to top it all off, even once you have all the pieces put together and you have a map... The map itself is just bad. It's not an abstract assortment of rectangles like most metroidvanias. That's not necessarily a requirement, though. In fact, its map bears a passing resemblance to my favorite game of the genre, Guacamelee. Both have maps that eschew the rectangles in lieu of a more free-form design that's intended to reflect the shape and placement of rooms. I'm honestly not even entirely sure what the difference is, maybe it's just that Guacamelee has expansive, seamless levels while Hollow Knight sticks to the self-contained rooms model that other metroidvanias use. But I just can't, for the life of me, keep the map in my head. When I'm traveling from point A to point B, even when I've gone that exact path multiple times in the past, I just can't hold onto it. I need to constantly re-check the map to see which direction I should be going or which exit I should be taking, often multiple times in the same room.
Blah. The worst part is, aside from the mapping issues, Hollow Knight actually lives up to its hype. Its combat and mechanics are a lot of fun. Even the story is starting to grab me. But god damn the map makes me hate this game.
I originally bought Hollow Knight (on the Switch) because of all the raving reviews, with people calling it one of the best games theyβve ever played.
After starting the game, I found myself getting increasingly frustrated with it around the 15-hour mark. As someone with little free time outside of work, Iβd often take long breaks between play sessions, and then have no clue as to where to go next. I also died often and had to repeat the same traveling sections over and over again for this reason, and felt like I was making no meaningful progress with the few hours of the week I was able to invest in the game. At that point, I really started wondering if this game really was for me.
Then some vacation time came around, and I decided to give the game one last chance. As I spent more time in Hallownest and could play the game for longer sessions, the experience finally clicked for me β I could now remember where and what each road block was, maintained a mental checklist of things to do, learned how to travel through the world more efficiently, and felt that I was finally making concrete progress every time I picked the game up.
Last night, I finally got the good ending after 37 hours of gameplay (92% completion). Reflecting back on my time with the game, Iβm really glad I gave it another shot β in the end, the sense of satisfaction I gained by mastering the gameβs world was what made my overall experience so memorable. I really felt that my own knowledge of Hallownest was what carried me through to the end, instead of artificial, easy-to-follow directions. It made me wonder, though, if I wouldβve still been able to enjoy the game had I continued to play for only a few hours each week. My personal impression was that the game, almost by design, required a minimum time investment to feel coherent β especially since so much of the exploration (and therefore progression) is completely player-driven.
Which brings me to my parting question: did you ever not enjoy a game at first, but later turned out to love it after changing your play style?
