And we all know what happens when authors we (used to) like run out of gas. (looking at you Martin / Rothfuss).

It's hard to truly describe what the Vorkosigan Saga is about. Comparisons have been drawn between Bujold's Miles Naismith and Martin's Tyrion Lannister, but Miles actually predates Tyrion. (and I'm certain the joke about Tyrion being good with drains is directly lifted from Miles' experience with drains.)

Nevertheless, the series could perhaps best be explained as 10+ books about the following quote, also from the author: "I don’t see SF as ‘about science,’ but rather as about human response to science-driven change."

Bujold has earned 7 Hugo awards (and 9 more nominations).

But if that doesn't convince you, I'll say this. Her books have made me laugh, cry, have taken my breath away, have given me chills, and have affected my life overall in many ways, all of them positive.

I played on PC and just started and finished the main story 2 weeks ago. I watched the Kingsglaives movies and the anime series on Youtube and that's it. Initially, I didn't enjoy the lack of exploration content from chapter 10 through chapter 13 because FFXV is a JRPG and exploration and side quests are the expectations for a game in this genre. But after reading through posts here and doing more thinking, I changed my mind and I wanted to share my point of view. Sorry for the length.

I think FFXV is more enjoyable and relatable when it is played by an older person who has gone through enough of life to experience loss, familial drama, aging parents, etc. Both the movie and the anime series did a phenomenal job to explain the political troubles, Noctis's upbringing, family situation, and day to day life that significantly added to the story in the game. These two sources of information really helped me form my views for this game.

To me, the most realistic way to evaluate FFXV is not as a JRPG game but more as an immersive drama telling a story of how a sheltered prince of a struggling kingdom must quickly grow up under dire times and do his duty as King to save the world and fulfill his destiny.

Chapters 1 through 8 and most of chapter 9 show a lighthearted story progression where Noctis and friends take a bachelor party of a road trip to explore and bond before Noctis gets married. They tackle some typical moral and life choices that help cement our views on these characters and use these views as a basis for further character developments. Gladio is the responsible one, Ignis is the mother hen, Prompto is the caring comic relief, and Noctis is a rebellious teen with a big heart. The main story is telling the story of Prince/King Noctis who has lived a sheltered life and is not prepared to deal with the events around the corner. Noctis is in shock following the death of his father and the sacking of Insomnia which doesn’t send him over a tipping point yet but it’s definitely a big burden that he tries to hide and becomes more withdrawn. They’re being hunted at this point and Arydn’s introduction and increasing appearances increase the suspense and mystery which adds more emotional burden for Noctis. Noctis eventually breaks down after Arydn murders Lunafreya, Ignis loses his vision, and a combination of all the other burdens he has been carrying.

Idk maybe I’m not capable of it.

I would hear some of my friends say things like:

Her: “wherever he goes I’ll follow” Me: “What?? So if he jumps off a cliff, you’ll jump too??”

Her: “when I love, I love hard” Me: “you seem very vulnerable”

Her: “I gave up my career to be a housewife so that we can....” Me: “YOU GAVE UP YOUR WHAT?!”

Her: “He’s my whole life and I can’t see me living my life without him” Me: “But you were living life fine before you met him so technically we all saw that you can be fine without him.”

So I would think: Am I capable of this kind of love? Is it because I haven’t met the right person?

Anyone that loves “hard” out there have any input?

Edit: but don't expect that there will be regret. There may not be any regret on their end at all, but that doesn't matter. You will have no regrets on your end either. Stay strong and keep moving forward.
