A list of puns related to "The Collegians"
While this sub is on the topic of Student Section 101, don't do any of this stuff. It's cringe, and it's not the gameday experience you missed out on last season. Tell your friends to tell their friends.
>Many students are so inebriated for an early afternoon they could barely walk β much less stand for an entire game.
>
>People constantly fell onto others and violated their personal space. Sometimes the drunk students would apologize, other times they would get aggressive and threaten to fight whoever they fell on.
>
>Screams of βf--- Ball Stateβ rang out across the crowd as Beaver Stadium tech rushed to drown it out with canned music.
>
>Upon a Nittany Lion touchdown, instead of cries of joy from the student section, a collective jeering of βf--- Ball Stateβ was chanted β a phrase of disrespect for both Ball Stateβs players and our own.
>
>Itβs bad enough we choose to add schools like Ball State to our schedule in order to crush them and maintain our ranking, but now we also have to degrade them while weβre at it.
>
>The booing and harassment wasnβt just reserved for our opponents, as evidenced by the reaction someone got if they sat when they werenβt supposed to or popped one of the condom balloons.
>
>The student section ignored amazing performances such as the Blue Band and Lionettes, which help make a game day at Happy Valley so special. Instead of being properly disposed of, trash and recyclables were either chucked at an unsuspecting student or simply left in the stands for someone else to pick up.
>
>As I attempted to watch the game, whenever Penn State tackled a Ball State player, I heard screams of, βF------ kill him!β and, βF------ break his legs, make sure he never walks!β
Iβm researching for a newspaper article about the working conditions this semester at dining halls in the midst of Covid-19, an increased (arguably too large) student population and worker/ supply shortages. Please PM me or alternatively email me at lrue@umass.edu with an email you feel comfortable using to talk about your experiences working dining halls this semester. No personal info will be used if your responses/ commentary are published.
If youβve ever been assaulted on the UMass campus and want to come forward about it, please email sgardner@umass.edu.
I am a French native speaker, and this is my first year working as an editor for French translated articles. I am fluent in both English and French, and I have a good experience in translation. Most of my work was for my own gain, but I have now started to work professionally. The Massachusetts Daily Collegian has a rather large network, where the articles written by the journalists can be translated in languages such as Spanish, German, Chinese, or Arabic.
Why do I translate?
I was born in France and studied French as first language for 18 years, Still today, I take the classes in College. I came in America a few years ago, which makes my English slightly less good than my French. I came to love translation as I read more books in two languages, and started to notice the enormous difference in writing, and how going from English to French made my mind work hard, and well. I just love languages, and I think that it is one thing to want to learn a language, and it is another thing to appreciate it. I just want to spread something I love.
Marjane Satrapi said about translation that it was "like a woman ; either beautiful or faithful." While it is a very loose analogy, I find it quite true, in the sense that it hard to convey both of those things. It is my job to make sure that both of those sides of translation be as present as possible.

Please, ask me anything you find interesting about translation!
Part I of this three-part series, published Saturday, explored the living conditions in UMass' dorms that allowed COVID to quickly spread, including students blatantly ignoring health guidelines and RAs struggling to keep students safe.
Part II, published Tuesday, took a deep dive into the effects of the COVID spike. The record-breaking wave of cases overwhelmed UMassβ contact tracing system. Students who had the virus or knew that a close contact had tested positive waited days to be removed from the dorms. Eventually, the school was forced to enlist the Massachusetts Dept. of Public Health in helping its overstretched contact tracers.
And now, Part III: Interviews with more than a dozen students paint a picture of an unenforced quarantine in which students can continue their normal, social college lifestyle within the isolation space if they choose.Β Video obtained by the Daily Collegian shows 20+ students playing cup pong in a quarantine dorm. None of them are wearing masks.
But these interviews also reveal the shortcomings of a school trying to manage several hundred active cases of coronavirus at once β meals forgotten to be delivered to students by dining services; sporadic wellness checks that were intended to be provided on a daily basis, but often never came; and, for one student, medical equipment which has yet to arrive.
If you have anything about your experience being contact traced or entering quarantine that you'd like to share with the Collegian, send us an email at news@dailycollegian.com.
Annyeonghaseyo (μλ νμΈμ)!
Iβm taking up my second year at UP Diliman and have questions about the Collegian newspaper. Iβm a capable scribe and Iβd like to give it a shot.
1st question - What is the app process like?
2nd question - Is being a writer for the Collegian prestigious?
3rd question - How much will it help my resume/CV?
Paano po ang screening, if mayro'n? Is there an interview?
Hello all. Penn State's independent, student-run news outlet here.
With the new semester underway, we just wanted to stop in and let you all know how to join the Collegian if you are interested. We're always looking to expand our staff, and, even given the current circumstances of the coronavirus era, we believe we can offer valuable experience to all students β not just communications majors.
If you are interested in joining, you can find our tryout form here. It is a short form that won't take you too long, so don't be intimidated by it at all. While we used to conduct tryouts at our office, the coronavirus threw a wrench in things a little bit.
Think you want to join but have questions? We're having a Zoom Q&A on Tuesday from 7-8 p.m. You can find out more about that here.
You can also reach out to our editor-in-chief Maddie Aiken at editorinchief@psucollegian.com if you cannot attend the Zoom session.
Keep in mind that we are not just a newspaper these days. We have openings for graphic designers, videographers and photographers in addition to reporting positions on our news, sports and lifestyle staffs.
We hope to hear from some of you soon. Stay safe.
This calendar is only applicable for students who would like to complete their requirements within the second semester of the current academic year.
