This black racer dropped in on us the other night after ambushing a bird’s nest on the 2nd story covered deck.
To sum this up, how much would this prized 1980 Topps Bird-Magic rookie be not all together? Long story short, about 10 years ago, a man sold me his entire set of 1980 topps (all separated cards, as most kids did reason being this card is so much being not torn) and thousands of other cards for $80.
TIL birds are not affected by capsaicin - the chemical compound that makes spicy peppers feel hot. So you can keep squirrels and other animals out of bird feeders by adding some hot peppers.

Crested couas are only found in the wild in Madagascar. The white silky crest, peach colored upper breast, purple back and tail feathers, and naked patch of light blue skin around the eyes easily distinguish this bird from other coua species on the island. Male and female couas look very similar.

Story about a mother snake and her daughter. The daughter meets a bird, they fall in love and become humans in order to be together.
This is the main plot that I can remember. There was this mother and daughter who are snakes. One day the daughter meets this bird and they fall in love. They can’t be together since they’re different species so they both transform into humans to be together. The mother who is still a snake is upset at her daughter for leaving her. This one random part in the story I remember the daughter making pottery and she ends up drawing a snake without even realizing it. Eventually the mother snake somehow tricks her daughter into becoming a snake again. The daughter is extremely upset and their relationship is ruined.
Now this is what I think I remember, but it honestly might be an entirely different story. I think the daughter dies by starving herself after turning into a snake. In the beginning of the book a different animal gets caught in a trap and then this story is told. Afterwards the mother snake helps the animal escape the trap.
My mom read this book to me when I was in elementary school which was ~13 years ago. I don’t know what the book looked like at all. Sorry! I hope someone here recognizes the story. Thank you to anyone who reads this!!
My Mom's bird-science focused nonprofit has been hit pretty hard by the Coronavirus recession. She's been hosting a kid's virtual story time and it'd mean the world to her to see more viewers.
My mom has nonprofit focused on bird conservation and education. This was supposed to be their busiest time of the year, with lots of events and things surrounding Migratory Bird Day, but obviously everything's been cancelled due to Corona, and she's super bummed.
She's been hosting a virtual story time every Thursday, with educational stories about birds, and it'd mean the world to her to see more people join, plus it's fun for kids :)
