The STAAR Test and the TEA (Texas Education Agency)

I am fed up with my dumb ass school system like everyone else on here but this time they really pissed me off with this stupid ass STAAR test. So if any of you live in Texas I'm sure you know of the STAAR test that stupid test you have to take in order to pass onto the next grade as well as the TEA (Texas Education Agency) a group of literal idiots who don't know how to run a school system worth shit. Now here's a little background info about me you should know before we get into the real goofy shit.

Currently I am a 16 year old Junior High schooler, now that you know this let's go back about 2 years ago when I was a freshman at this time because of the pandemic hitting hard seemingly out of no where our school year ended early and we didn't have to take the STAAR test then there was my sophomore year where we had only learning and I fucking loved it but then at the end of the year they started trying to force kids to take the STAAR and it was required the you go in person which I was not comfortable with at the time.

So now fast forward to my current Junior year where the governor along with the stupid Texas Education Agency decided to force kids to go back to school and completely got rid of online learning at this point I was really close to going to a virtual learning school but decided not to because of the waiting list the school had. Now let's fast forward one more time to now where we are doing our benchmarks for the STAAR and I just found out literal hours before I head to school that I have to take the STAAR tests I didn't take during the pandemic meaning I have to do the fucking benchmark even I literally passed all of my classes last year with a very highly passing grade overall apparently passing isn't good enough.

Also thanks to the stupid TEA they just signed some dumb law saying that if you fail this test you have to do a mandatory 30 hours of tutoring. Even though one of the subjects I'm being tested on, I don't even have a class for this year because I already fucking passed it last year and this subject is biology which I don't remember at all so how do they expect me to pass this stupid ass benchmark when I don't even have biology anymore and I don't remember shit.

This is exactly why I hate the school system like what's even the point of having grades if they are going to have a test that determines everything and as a person who makes to passes my classes its ridiculous that all it takes is one wrong mark and I could possibly

Texas Education Agency Pauses A-F Ratings For 2020-21 School Year, but will still require STAAR testing.... what!!?!?!

Thousands of people are dying each day. Schools are struggling. Cities are having to bring in refrigerated morgues. People are suffering right now in every way possible, but THIS is what TEA has decided?! As a TX teacher I am appalled.

Full press release:

AUSTIN, Texas – December 10, 2020 – The Texas Education Agency announced today that A-F ratings would be paused for 2020-21 school year due to the ongoing disruptions associated with COVID-19. The STAAR test will proceed for the 2020-21 school year in order to provide critically important information about individual student learning that teachers and parents can use to help students grow. For those schools that incorporate STAAR results into teacher evaluations, TEA is providing flexibility to allow them to remove that component this school year.

Ensuring that STAAR is made available has been recognized as vital by education leaders around the state. STAAR results will allow schools, teachers, and parents to see how individual students are performing while also giving education leaders and policymakers across Texas a comprehensive picture of what are likely to be sweeping impacts of the pandemic on student learning, helping policymakers craft solutions for the years ahead. However, the STAAR will not be used for accountability purposes this school year.

β€œThe last nine months have been some of the most disruptive of our lives. The challenges have been especially pronounced for our parents, teachers, and students. We continue to prioritize the health and safety of students, teachers, and staff in our schools this year, while working to ensure students grow academically,” said Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath.

β€œThe issuance of A-F ratings for schools has proven to be a valuable tool to support continuous improvement for our students, allowing educators, parents, and the general public to better identify and expand efforts that are working for kids. But the pandemic has disrupted school operations in fundamental ways that have often been outside the control of our school leaders, making it far more difficult to use these ratings as a tool to support student academic growth. As a result, we will not issue A-F ratings this school year,” added Morath.

School systems are required to make STAAR available to every eligible student. The test will be administered on school campuses across the state or at other secure alternative testing sites. The test is an assessment of the grade level expectat
