Was anyone aware that they were invited to speak at an ARC church for the marriage series, Itβs Complicated? This was Lifepoint Church in Tennessee with Daniel Floyd as Pastor. This was 4 years after the scandal in April 2010. The links have ironically been scrubbed but the video is available. https://fredericksburg.com/lifestyles/religion/ted-and-gayle-haggard-to-visit-local-church/article_277ad861-d809-5057-9b98-70e75a5edb22.html
I recently ran into a specific clip of Ted Haggard from Richard Dawkins' The God Delusion documentary. The context of the post was how creepy he was/is. But it struck me how amazing his words were at summing up exactly the arrogance of "pastors".
Haggard, speaking to Richard Dawkins.
>"But you seeβ¦ you do understand. You do understand. That this issue right here of βintellectual arroganceβ. Is the reason why people like you have a difficult problem with people of faith.

>I donβt communicate an air of superiority over the people because I know so much more.
>
>And if you only read the books I know. And if you only knew the scientists I knew then you would be great like me. Wellβ¦ sir. There could be many things that you know well. There are other things that you donβt know well. As you age youβll find yourself wrong on some things right on some other things. But please, in the process of itβ¦ donβt be arrogant."

>The part that caught me was the "I don't communicate an air of superiority".
Growing up in a very religious Christian household. Every pastor, youth pastor, bible study leader, parent literally communicates an air of superiority in all things. I was taught that they were the ultimate authority, via the bible and god. Never to be questioned. The duality astounds me.

... keep reading on reddit β‘Institutionalized homophobia, which is a direct result of religious conservatism, is not compatible with people who are born gay. In forcing these people to live a lie of being heterosexual, it just forces them to find less healthy outlets for their homosexual feelings.
Had George Rekers been born in the Netherlands or Canada, it's unlikely he would have ended up hiring young men to "carry his luggage", instead being allowed to pursue an honest gay lifestyle with other openly gay men. Who knows, he may have even met a man that loves him and had a beautiful life together.
Religious sexual repression, especially of homosexuals, is a disease on our culture. We all have to work harder to cure it.
