Okay, I have no malicious intentions with this, I just got curious after a post I saw a few seconds ago, about words in other languges that sound like the n word.

Just curious btw, can you think of some? Pasensya na di umaandar utak ko ngayon

What did people call babies back then? While we're on the topic, what are some simple ideas/concepts that are annoyingly non-existent in Tagalog?

EDIT: In my parent's language, Waray, they say ka-iro but it can also mean something like frail or helpless.

All I can think of is 'bangka', 'gatos' and 'gatas'.

Sa Novo Ecijano dialect (where I am) ang palagi naming naririnig at ginagamit ay salitang "kampit" kapag tinatawag ang kutsilyo na hiram na salita sa Español. Mayroon bang tuwirang salin sa wikang Tagalog ang "knife." Puwede ba ang salitang "gulok"

Like the sentence:"The rate of car sales has plummeted"

Ang sabi ng iba, pangbomba. Pero di ko mapaliwanag, basta feeling ko may iba pang salita para dito.

Grammar books and guides already explain the difference in usage between "ng" and "nang" but I wonder whether there are already attempts at understanding the functions of these words while treating them as the same particle.

So far, I only know mabango, mabaho, malansa (fishy smell, right?) and maasim. Are there more? :)

For in tagalog today is Para and But is Pero but they’re both Spanish. What are the pre-colonial alternatives to these words?

My husbands family is from the Philippines. My mother in law has said she wants her grandchildren to call her “nanay” (is that the correct spelling? I’m not sure since I’m using google as my source). Google says that means mother, but she said it means grandma. Can someone clarify for me? I don’t know how I feel about my son calling her mother.

Hello guys, I want to comfort my friend and I don't know what to say to make him feel better. Any thoughts?

I think I've searched all the ol dictionaries I bookmarked but all that turned up was either 'hinog' o 'magulang/gumulang.'

I find the "men mature as they grow older. nahihinog ang binata sa pagtanda." a little bit weird.

Or "You've matured enough to follow in my footsteps. Nahinog ka na para sundan ang mga yapak ko(¿what?)"

Is using 'hinog' appropriate in this context or is there another word for maturity?

So every Tagalog dictionary I have come across uses the acute accent (ex: á) to indicate stress when it appears on any syllable that is not the penultimate (second to last) syllable. Words that do not have any diacritics/accents imply stress on the penultimate syllable (ex hayop and kamote are pronounced like háyop and kamóte).

However, when I see words with antepenultimate stress like di-ináasahan, palátandaan, máalaman or pagkásulong, should I also assume that the penultimate syllable is stressed as well? (ie do I pronounce those above words, and words like them, as di-ináasáhan, palátandáan, máaláman, and pagkásúlong?)

Article XIV, Section 6 of the 1987 Constitution states that "the national language of the Philippines is Filipino. As it evolves, it shall be further developed and enriched on the basis of existing Philippine and other languages.

We now have Filipino words that did not exist in Tagalog (the base language) but are now widely used in Filipino such as katarungan and lungsod and of course informal words that are becoming part of the spoken form of the language like >!iyot, burikat,!< and dyutay

Since some of the concepts have no Tagalog equivalents, we tend to loan and loan and loan foreign words and just indigenize the spelling when we can turn to other languages here in the Philippines like limbaon (Waray) for pink instead of saying kulay rosas.

So back to the question, what words from your language you'd want the Filipino language to have?

The only examples I can think of are multiples of 10: sampû, dalawampû, tatlumpû,...

but the numbers should not be multiples of 100.

isándaán, dalawándaán, tatlóndaán,...

apat na raán at limampû ends in û, it is a multiple of 10, but not by 100.

Are there more words that end in such vowel sound? I only know those numbers.

û is always at the end of the word, the ^ indicates a glottal stop at the end of the word. so there is no such thing as û somewhere else

Edit: I'm looking for words that are not numbers

Skl. Not too familiar with other Philippine languages. I've tried Kapampangan "lupa" which could be from Malay "rupa", a Sanskrit loanword. Isn't it likely that the historical Hindu influence in the Philippines are only due to the Malay interactions?

Also, I'm after words na "solid" or "badass" yung meaning like the ones mentioned.
