Theyβre a nosey bunch, arenβt they.
Interesting personal anecdote but I woke up yesterday with a sore throat. Have a stockpile of 5-6 at-home Rapid tests that my employer gave me this fall.
Used one and swabbed my throat and nose, gross but have heard about all the nuances with omicron and existence in the throat so figured it couldn't hurt. Tested positive.
Then did the second test on my nose only and it came up negative.
Did a third just out of curiosity on my throat only and it came up positive as well.
Went to get a PCR at Elmhurst Hospital yesterday and got a positive result this morning. I know everyone's experiences may vary and not everyone is blessed with testing availability but it might not hurt to try swabbing your throat just to be safe.
Worth noting that I got tested at noon yesterday and got my result at 3 AM. NYCHH turnaround time seems to be back to normal.
I'm 30 btw.
Hi, I was tested 5 days ago for herpes (had 1 single painful blister sore). Test came back this morning as βHerpes Simplex Virus Type 2 DNA: Detectedβ. Happy new year huh. I just want to know your experience with the virus (those who have it) and how you go about telling your partner? What should I expect for future outbreaks? Iβm not mad about it, Iβm just really upset that I have it and feel like Iβll never sleep with anyone ever again because of it. Please give me some advice.
I have redness on the foreskin and a few red small bumps on the glans. Iβm thinking this may be balanitisβ¦ again. Iβve done HSV swab tests in the past and they all came back negative. Not sure if itβs worth it this time. I guess it does provide some peace of mind.
My understanding is that in order for swab test to pick up HSV, there must be an open sore or fluid. Is that correct?
Thank you
I was just offered a position at a place I've been trying to work for years and they surprised me by saying i have to take a swap test in 2 days, is there ANY way to pass this or am i screwed
Hi, I keep reading that male urine tests are more likely to give false negatives, but we seem to be having the opposite issue. I have been having symptoms on and off for the 3 years weβve been together, and itβs been particularly bad for the last 6 months with no relief. It was only a few months ago that I even heard about ureaplasma (via the internet), so we decided we should both get tested. My male fiancΓ© (asymptomatic) had parvum in his urine (though the nurse told him this is βcompletely normalββ¦.). When he got this result we literally had to GOOGLE IT to find out that parvum was ureaplasma. My swab was negative. My symptoms persisted and I was tested again, with another negative. How can this be? How can his urine test be positive but my tests are negative, especially when Iβve been having symptoms for quite some time? Iβm not sure if my doctor is doing a culture or PCR; I didnβt realize there was a difference, if Iβm being honest. My mental health has really been effected by this; my brain is jumping to all sorts of terrible conclusions and my anxiety is relentless. Any insight??
Went in the otherday to take a swab mouth test for a job. I havent smoked since Dec 17th been on a fruit and water diet and laying off the sugar. I hear they're easy af to pass but I just wanted a peace of mind
i got symptoms on JAN2, Sunday (runny nose) followed by more symptoms (fever and sore throat) on JAN5-6 Wednesday-Thursday, and got swabbed on JAN7, Friday
got results on JAN11 (Tuesday), and it came out positive (damn)
obviously isolated after getting swabbed on the Friday
but when can i retest for the swab test?? like how many days do I've to wait for a retest?
thanks, everyone!
Iβm in Prague and need an antigen or PCR test for my next destination. I can only find places that offer a certificate with nasal swab which I canβt do due to medical reasons. Any suggest a place in or around Prague that offers this?
This idea comes from Eric Feigl-Dingβs tweet, and I had it work for my family recently. Had access to some rapid tests and sure enough, nasal swab alone and it gave some of us a false negative.
What worked for us: nasopharyngeal (throat) swab, followed by nasal swab using the same swabbing stick. Itβs worth a try especially now that laboratories are overwhelmed by RT PCR tests.
I think I may have done it wrong: I only stuck the swab in my nose just until the frizzy part disappeared, closed my nostril, then twisted 15 times (for each cavity).
My parents had gotten my younger sister a home covid test due to her having similar symptoms as covid. I was leaving my room to get something to drink as I walked past the living room telling my mother that "Did you know that the "cotton" part of the covid test can actually get stuck up your nose?". She looked at me angrily whilst my younger sister looked at me in total shock.
I thought that my sister had already taken the test thus leading me to think that it would be okay to give this information in front of her and my mother. That is where the fuck-up happened. She had not taken the test yet.
As I am writing this I can hear yelling from the living room which contains the sentences of "I DON'T WANT TO TAKE IT" and "DON'T PUSH IT, I DON'T WANT IT TO GET STUCK". I am expecting to get yelled at in a second because of this. If I do not respond, I am probably dead.
TL;DR told my sister that the cotton from covid tests can get stuck in your nose
