A list of puns related to "Susumu Yokota"
I use bitwig software, and software instruments, which i love, but deffo wanna he more immersed in making sounds and songs without screentime.
Ill be getting an arturia keystep 37.
Im torn between a Korg Miniloge XD, and a digitakt or digitone. Ive also been looking at some volcas to begin with to keep it cheaper.
Ive played with a Minilogue xd and thought it was cool af. But watching vids of the Elektron devices, they seem very fun and versatile also..
Theres also the moog mother 32.
Ive read some of the posts on here doing comparissons and honestly its hard for me to decide.
I love sequences ala Rubicon and Phaedra.. klaus schulze etc..
but im also into techno from Susumu Yokota, and other Japanese artists. Not much or a sampler, prefer to make the sounds myself.
Thanks for any insights!
Just a question, do you know what kind of gear Susumu Yokota used? That music is soooo interesting, and I got myself thinking but browsing didn't found much
I'm listening to Sakura right now, and I think it's excellent. For those familiar with his discography, what is his best work?
Recently I discovered this incredible album which samples classical music into a new genre. I can't seem to find similar pieces. Any mix of genres is welcome.
I got into Susumu Yokota when a newspaper article reviewed his first big western release, 'Sakura', which definitely had a lot of ambient tracks.
However a lot of his later stuff doesn't really fade into the background the way most people would think of ambient music. There is sometimes jarring or unexpected sounds, sometimes heavy percussion, its a diverse range of stuff. A good example would be his album, Laputa - probably the album that I found hardest to appreciate.
I still think of him as an Ambient artist, because he often seems to be creating an atmosphere, or evoking a place or a feeling or something. Most of his non dancey stuff does not have lyrics (though some does).
I guess if your not willing to listen to him, or haven't heard of him, you could at least tell me what ambient music is to you.
Remixed classical music, or renewed well known pieces
Hey all! I just made a discord in discussion of Susumu Yokota and his various projects! For those of you who do not know, Susumu Yokota is an ambient artist who made various works from the 90s up until his death in 2015, and has 12+ albums, including under different pseudonyms and labels.
Since he is a pretty niche artist, he doesn't have a reddit and there isn't much information or talk about him, so I thought it would be appropriate to post something bringing both awareness to him as well as advertising a place where people who either know about him or are interested in him can gather together.
For those interested in him and want to learn more, I recommend Sakura, Acid Mt Fuji, and Symbol as his first albums to listen to. My personal favorite is Sakura because of how ethereal and mirror's edge-esque it is.
If you know about him, I invite you to join the server or discuss him here on this thread! What's your favorite album from him? What have you heard already?
