A list of puns related to "Surviving R. Kelly"
Just finished watching this and want to recommend to you guys. It has survivors and clinical psychologists talking about the abuse cycle and psychological manipulation.
The situation with R. Kelly is more extremely because of his celebrity status, and the fact that he has a whole team enabling him. But there's the pattern and the power play and I find it educational.
I can relate most with what the wife said, getting criticized over the smallest things like the edge of the pancake is not crispy enough, to the point you start doubting yourself and not trusting your own judgement. Towards the end she finally called him a narcissist and I'm surprised he wasn't referred to as a narc more throughout the show.

R. Kelly Didn't Watch It and Plans to 'Sue Everybody' Involved
Here's an overview of some of the claims made in the doc
From Bun B:
John Legend is right, R. Kelly needs to be 'destroyed' and 'indicted' like Harvey Weinstein
R. Kelly Under Criminal Investigation in Georgia Thanks to 'Surviving'
Here's some excerpts:
>The six-episode Lifetime series tells the story of the R&B singer through the experiences of his accusers, including his ex-wife Andrea Kelly, who shared allegations of pedophilia and physical and sexual abuse perpetrated by the singer that span decades. βWe have evidence of him raping underage girls, which is what sex with underage girls always is," hampton said of what's presented in the docuseries.
--
>βThere are whole systems in place: housing, runners, rules," hampton said. βThere are women decades apart testifying to the kind of rules that they were subjected to living with this man, dealing with this man; there are hundreds, probably thousands of tapes made of them [by R. Kelly] without their permission. He's also deeply manipulative; these are women who didn't know each other, 20 years apart, and they'd be talking about being made to sign false confessions and he'd say, 'This is my insurance that you don't hurt me the way these other women have hurt me.' So, I knew we were dealing with someone that we may not want to dismiss. He's dangerous," hampton said.
--
>But when hampton asked longtime collaborators and friends to speak on-camera for the docuseries, many of these highly influential people declined.
>βJohn Legend was the only one," who participated, hampton said. βI asked Jay-Z, I asked Mary J. Blige, I asked Lil Kim, Erykah Badu, Dave Chappelle..." But they all said no. βI mean, most people just don't want to touch it. I remember Ahmir ["Questlove" Thompson] was like, 'I would do anything for you but I can't do this.' It's not because they support him, it's because it's so messy and muddy. It's that turning away that has allowed this to go on."
'Surviving R. Kelly' premieres on Lifetime on January 3.
This documentary series was released earlier this year exclusively on Lifetime platforms.
It is now available on Netflix - it is well shot documentary on the history of R Kelly up to modern day circumstances with him and underage girls.
Would highly recommend a watch especially with him currently facing charges
So I recently realized that Surviving R Kelly had a big ripple effect and sparked a lot of needed conversations on sexual assault. Did anyone else have some family skeletons come out of the closet as a result of the docuseries?
I fly very frequently and typically I take the overnight flights. It's quiet and I can usually enjoy the ride more with some downloaded Netflix movies.
I also opt to choose my seat since I prefer the window vs the aisle. Even though I have some miles under my belt I never know when to stand while in the aisle seat when we land.
On this particular ride the lady in the middle was wide awake and we started off on a good note making small talk and organizing our things.
Once we get to cruising altitude I begin to turn on my laptop and watch the Surviving R Kelly series.
She immediately huffs and puffs telling me this is inappropriate and that she doesn't feel comfortable.
I tell her it's the only thing I've brought to watch and even offered to watch the series on my phone and turn away from her.
Nope. That wasn't enough. some banter back and forth I just put my headphones on and watch the episodes I downloaded.
I have no words for the music industry and his enablers who participated in the rapes of Black girls. And there was a general consensus of Black men that they were lying, especially in the first 15 years, that they were lying because they were Black girls; including Chance the Rapper in the late stages of this thing.
How long do you think this attitude of disposable Black girls has been going on. Did it start post Vietnam War, when father's couldn't live with their families because of HUD rules regarding public housing.
R Kelly doesn't have a "Sex Cult" per se, but has used the tried but true tactics of a Pimp. The cone of isolation is just an innovation, of these methods. Demanding they call him Daddy was the ultimate cliche'.
How do we address this type of pedophilic grooming and sexual assault, when we become aware that there is an issue?
Iβm starting season 2 and itβs opening with huge rebuttles in favor of R Kelly. Claiming that he is simply a victim of his own sexual violence experiences.
What do you think of this docuseries? Should we have any sympathy for R Kelly?
How do you think this docuseries will effect victim shaming? What can we as women do to protect other women to falling victim to sexual predators like R Kelly?
Iβm most surprised to see women still supporting R Kelly while heβs in prison awaiting trials. Why do you think they support him?
