Hello,
I've got a small friend nearby in a shoe-box with some towels on a heating pad set to low. They smashed into a window and crushed their foot. Completely smashed and bent. Heavy breathing and they were in obvious pain. I've called 6 places that accept/specialize in birds, but every single one is an answering machine that refers me in circles between them. I just want some advice. I don't need a sanctuary. As far as I can tell this guy might not make it until tomorrow.

How can I make 'em more comfortable? The top is only cracked open 2 inches because I don't want him to fly out or get stuck. Towels to line the box, on top of a heating pad set to low.

Should I leave him outside instead? I have an outdoor outlet and we have an automatic moving light that scares away any curious creatures.

What's the most humane way to mercy kill a small bird? I will be very sad if it comes to this, but I don't want to leave it to suffer for another day or two. Perhaps there will be a proper bird funeral like in the office.
I think it's a Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, but I've never identified birds before. Thank you for reading.
