St. Scholastica Academy in Covington, Louisiana, has notified staff that two students are now self-quarantined at home. Last week there was a 5-day school break for Mardi Gras, and the students went to Italy during that time (which was pretty stupid).

School reopened on Monday March 2nd, after the break. The students did not notify the school they had been to Italy until yesterday (which was also pretty stupid). School administration notified staff that the students would not come to school on Thursday and will not be returning to school for 14 days.

Meanwhile, unbelievably, irresponsibly, and stupidly, as of today the school still REMAINS OPEN.

In my opinion this school should be closed immediately for thorough disinfection, and they should have it on the news, and should have been notifying parents today. Of course, I don't expect any of that to happen, based on the ludircous mis-steps and fumbling we've seen from the CDC and everyone involved in managing our perception of this crisis.

It has not been disclosed whether the students are suffering symptoms or have been tested, but, as we know, in the US it is almost impossible to get tested, and even people who are asymptomatic can be spreading the virus in the community.

Hi all. I got a DWI in St. Tammany Parish in February 2017. I got an attorney since I was a first time offender and not a Louisiana resident. I’m here to share anything anyone would like to know about my case. I’ve been in diversion since April 2018 and will complete my 18 months in October. I currently have a SCRAM ankle monitor. Below is a list of things I have had to complete. Let me know if anyone has any questions!

Bail $2,500

$1,500 enrollment fee for diversion program

18 months of monthly payments $53/month for diversion program (very much like probation)

12 hour out patient substance abuse program started within 30 days of enrollment

12 AA meetings in 18 months

MADD impact panel within 120 days of enrollment

DWI driving course within 120 days of enrollment

Random drug/alcohol screens - $75 each

32 hours community service complete within 10 months of enrollment

Continuous alcohol monitoring - this started as a Bactrack handheld device but they were testing the program and changed to a SCRAM ankle monitor. Bactrack was $100 on Amazon. SCRAM is $114 install and $70+ per month for monitoring

Attorneys fees were around $3,000-$5,000 but I wouldn’t have gotten into diversion without him.

I just wanted to post in case anyone has any questions or needs some hope, especially as a first time offender.

Jack Strain, one of St. Tammany Parish’s most powerful elected officials during two decades as sheriff, will spend the rest of his life in prison after a jury of six men and six women convicted him late Monday on eight charges of sex crimes against boys, including four counts of aggravated rape. One of his victims Skip Keen told the jury that he was 10 when Strain began abusing him. Strain, he said, was 200 lbs. heavier and raped him. Keen testified the sexual abuse continued even as Keen became an adult and went to work at the Sheriff's Office, which by then was led by Strain.
