~75 bald eagles fishing (counting perched in trees); 400-500 Goldeneye diving ducks avoiding the eagles, hundreds on mallards, geese and trumpeter swans all eating shad at the open water confluence of the St. Croix and Mississippi Rivers. Anything flying is a bald Eagle.

What pace should I plan for when kayaking the St Croix river?
Iβm trying to plan a day trip on the St Croix using an inflatable kayak. Does anyone have experience with roughly how many MPH I should expect to go? Weβll be going at a pretty leisurely pace. Thank you!

Started with the thickest fog I've kayaked in. So dense it was raining from the trees. Found a cool little bend that runs off the main St. Croix River which was nice and peaceful. Caught the perch back in there & several northerns. Just had to navigate through the tree spikes coming out of the water

Interstate, Wild River, William OβBrien: good campsites along the St. Croix?
Of the state parks along the St. Croix, which campgrounds are more desirable? Are there any sites in the parks right along the river? Iβm aware there are some canoe sites operated but the NPS too, but for car camping Iβm wondering about parks that have easy access to the water.

Just caught this 22.5", 2.25lb Northern Pike on the St. Croix River in Minnesnowta near William O'Brien State Park. I threw it back after measuring and weighing it so it can get even bigger! Caught on a 1/8th black roostertail spinner.

A fossilized 500-million-year-old trilobite-type sea creature first found on the banks of the St. Croix River near Stillwater could become Minnesotaβs official state fossil. Minnesota is one of only seven states that doesnβt have an official fossil. It was found during an 1852 geological expedition.

Another great day on the St. Croix River! Water level was up 8-12" so I had to find where the fish were. Didn't take long though. I love the cooler temps in the morning creating the fog to add a little mystery to the trip!

20mph+ winds on the St. Croix River today, but that didn't stop the fish from biting! A 2.5lb - 24" northern & a 2lb - 15" smallmouth were the highlights. The smallmouth put up twice the fight of the northern!

Had a great day on the St. Croix River today. Launched at 7am (I like to launch as close to sunrise as possible especially with the cooler temps creating the beautiful fog lately). The river was up 8-12" so that was a plus. I did have to find new spots to fish but ended up finding a great spot!
