Came here after seeing the Whang video and like many others had an immediate nostalgia for this weird dude. When he discussed it being a fixture in a mall display at an tapeworld/FYE it made me vaguely remember seeing it at Spencer’s gifts (another common mall fixture in the mid-late 90s). I also immediately associated him with sneakers but I don’t remember the brand that would have been associated with him. Probably a useless memory but regardless I’m on the hunt for this one alongside the rest of you!
I recently acquired an estate filled with a bunch of early 2000's spencers plasma lamps, neon lamps, band merchandise, etc.
Even with inflation, most of this stuff, which still has the original Spencers price tags on the boxes, is half price or less than similar items would be today.
I have a skull ashtray from a band that is priced at $19.99. Today that item would easily be $40-$50.
Also, fun fact, Spencers used to have lay-a-way, no clue when they got rid of it.
Hot Topic is the same way, tiny little plastic trinkets from China are $7-$10 now.
Was in my local mall yesterday and saw that Spencer's Gifts sold crystals. I wasn't aware they did. Was wondering if anyone has ever purchased from them before. Thank you!
I bought some at a pure romance party a long time ago and it's still one of my favorites, but I don't want to support MLM. Very happy to see it's available in a retail store!
Was rewatching the reboots episode of Scott the woz and was wondering what Spencer’s gifts was? If anyone doesn’t remember Scott was talking about bomberman act zero and says “I’ve just got back from Spencer’s gifts, I’m ready for this” I’m paraphrasing but it sounds like a bit of a punchline and not being an American I don’t know if it is or not
