A list of puns related to "Spa Face Mask"
Just don't forget to take it off before walking outside in the middle of Harlem.
After posting some mini-reviews about a week ago, some people asked for a comparison between these two COSRX products. I didn't want to disappoint. For 5 consecutive nights, I used the COSRX Rice Overnight Mask on the right half of my face, and COSRX Honey Overnight Mask on the left half. I used them as final stage moisturizers, and not as wash-off masks, because I have a habit of sleeping on my face and didn't want to have that much product on my face/pillowcase.
TL;DR It went very poorly for one half of my face.
Initial impressions: the honey mask is a translucent golden gel with plenty of slip, and a little goes a long way. The rice mask is much thicker, like a dense (relatively) cream. It's opaque and white.
Upon first applying, the honey feels cooling and refreshing, and leaves a shiny/tacky finish. The rice feels more moisturizing but also leaves a tacky finish.
About 30 minutes after application, the stickiness of the honey mask has subsided, but the rice mask is still quite tacky - definitely feels more occlusive than the honey.
In the morning, either I've rubbed all the product off my face, or it's absorbed into my skin. Both sides feel about equally moisturized. However, the humidity's increasing where I live (shoud've tested in winter) so it's hard to allocate credit. The right (rice) side of my face appears to have improved texture, with smaller pores and less redness than the left (honey) side. There's nothing wrong with the left side, but the right side is noticeably... nicer.
Ready to come to a conclusion, I decided that the honey mask was pretty lightweight and would only stand up as an overnight mask when used in conjunction with a heavier occlusive (thanks to u/ lgbtqbbq for the idea). The rice mask was the clear winner in terms of hydration, texture improvement, and reduction of redness.
But wait, I hear you thinking. I thought something went terribly wrong.
Well, yes. Originally I had planned on continuing the half/half experiment for at least another week. But on the morning of day 6, I discovered Vesuvius on my right cheek and several smaller mounts in its shadow. I strongly suspect my skin does not like rice extract (which is 65% of the product). I generally don't consider my skin acne-prone at all so I was extremely surprised by this breakout, which was confined to the right side of my face. Overall, not too disappointed as I wasn't wowed by either mask. I'll stick with my Cerave.
I wouldn't repurchase eithe

I popped into the Leeds branch of bodycare the other day to have a nosey and saw this: http://www.montagnejeunesse.com/face-masks/fabric/dead-sea-face-spa for 89p. I'm a sucker for a sheet mask and didn't have many of my Asian ones left, so bought it.
Must admit I was a bit hesitant about trying it, as I always see Montagne Jeunesse as a very 'cheap and cheerful' brand mostly catering for teenagers on sleepovers. But taking a look at the ingredients there looked to be some good ones, I couldn't see anything that was an outright no no and they are made in England (Swansea) so decided to risk it.
For those not familiar with sheet masks, they are an Asian invention with the best ones being made in Korea and Japan. The fabric is shaped to roughly fit your face (some brands will fit your face better than others, as they're all shaped a bit differently) and is soaked in liquid, called an essence in Asia, that's usually got hydrating and nourishing ingredients in, with a few targeted for anti-acne. The fabric is designed to keep the essence next to your skin and prevent it from evaporating, therefore ensuring you get a kick of hydration.
This one was made of relatively thick fabric and fitted my face very well (perhaps because it was made for a Western market?) While on, I could feel my face cooling quite a lot, the same feeling as you get from mint. I left it on for 15 minutes whilst watching TV then peeled it off. I was pleasantly surprised at the results-the packet says 'calming and cleansing' so I was hoping for redness reduction but wasn't sure apart from that. But my skin was plump, glowing and hydrated, redness had faded and PIH was temporarily lessened, exactly what I'd expect from a classic Asian sheet mask.
The only things I disliked was the cooling sensation from the menthol (which I suspect would be really nice if I was in a hot muggy place like Singapore) and the fact it had quite a strong smell-fragrance was listed as an ingredient but I suspect part of it also came from the different types of seaweed extracts. However, if I run low on sheet masks stock I will buy this again and maybe consider the other fabric face masks they have: tea tree and aloe vera. They also have various 'clay infused' sheet masks.
Ingredients: (typed from the package because I love you) Aqua (purified water), glycerin (plant origin), PPG-1-PEG-9 lauryl glycol ether, hydrolyzed oats, glucose (sugar)sodium citrate (pH balancer), parfum (fragrance), chondrus crispus (ca
